Excellent camping sites, of which some are ONLY accessible by water.

If I remember correctly, you must book your sites in advance, which sux if you don't know what they're like.

Nice spot, you should enjoy it.

Wolfie, where do you book the sites?
Aren't there any bush camping sites that don't need to be booked?

Our original plan was to go up to Birdsville but as we aren't going until mid October thought it would be too hot - got a taste of a hot northly wind yesterday in Adelaide.
We drive a Mitsubishi 4x4 Express fitted out with bed and Engel fridge.

The sites are run & maintained by the Victorian Parks.
They have an office in Nelson, and the staff are very nice & helpful.
You can download PDF files on the sites, along with talking to the staff, and they should be able to let you select suitable sites.

I have seen all of the sites accessible by vehicle, and most of them are quite pretty.

Some can be seen from clifftops only, and these simply only have landings.

I have not personally stayed at any of these sites overnight, but have visited them during January of this year, with a view on booking some at a later date.

I hope this gives you a head start.

Cheers

Mitsie, I am not sure what parts of the Glenelg you are planning to paddle or what sort of kayak you have. The lower part is too bl***y flat for my liking for good paddling. It is restful though. I think there are still plenty of sites for camping as it is nearly twenty years since I paddled any of it.

Did the one way canoeing trip a couple of years ago. We spent 4 nights out and all the campsites were all you would want. Did have to pre book the sites and we picked watercraft sites only.

wild dog bend was nice and the last campsite on the main track nice and quiet and the great south walk is opnly metres away.
take some bait and gear for fishing andenjoy a slow relaxing kayak.
mulloway go off near the river mouth otherwise bream by the bucket to be had also check out the caves at margaret rose and the nearby jetty for lure casting .

fairly flat ground and when it rains it pours .
lmao i remeber 2 years back a 4 day stay rained for 3 then 1 nightin the cabin park at nelson to watch the brownlow and dry off.

nice place.

check out the petrified forest closer to portland (scenic photo spot).
