I am in the market for a set of replacement shocks for my Patrol. Can I get some advice regarding the price per pair that I should expect to pay. Also any other thoughts on after market shocks for this application. Thanks in anticipation.
Regards,
Slim.

Well depends on your budget, your travel intentions etc.
Konis, are THE best. but you do pay for it.. Lots more than others, upto double.
Have a good look at them, they are great. No doubting it.
But also have a look at OME kit, very happy with
mine, the budget wouldnt stretch to Koni's for my liftkit....

Forgot to mention, I have Koni's with Kings springs and would not have any it any other way, they are the best but you will pay approx $1200.

I, and and a number of others in the club, have gone with OME. Have not had a problem with them. Can't remember the cost but it was cheaper than OEM and works better so far

Hi Slim
How long do you intend to keep the GU. If it is for the long haul then it is
well worth the Koni's. The GU wagon I had, we fit OME and I ended up getting two replaced in the year (I know this is not normal and they were changed without fuss) With the Ute went back to Koni's, plus they were adjustable for the extra roll with the camper on the back. Had Koni's on the F1004X4 for 11 years and 350000 with no problems.
If you are keep the GU (and Nissan's go on and on and on) then go the extra cost.
Recommend the King Springs as
well

Be careful with OME.
On a recent canning trip 2 vehicles had NEW OME
suspension. One set of front shocks lasted 300kms and the other vehicle also did the shocks
well before the end of the trip. NEW shocks with warranty?? Guess what, ARB did not honor. I had bilstein that were 25000 kms old and they lasted the trip - just. Back units are now leaking oil but front are still fine.
So it depends on what you are going to use the shocks for but I dont think any of the budget OME are comparable to a quality shock.

I have just put some koni's on my GQ patrol with EFS springs.......i got my koni's from Roachie and sent them to
Melbourne to get reconditioned at Top performance. Cost for 4 shocks to be reconditioned...($304)...Just thought it was worth a mention as the extra you pay up front for new ones may
well balance out when u have them reconditioned the next time. Only been in for 2 weeks but seem to be the goods.

Hi Wiz
Have a GU and replaced the shocks with Monroe Gas shocks coz couldn't afford a set of "better" ones (Kings medium springs already fitted). Did a trip across the Gulf (east to west) and then home (NSW) via Alice and
the desert (at nearly 3 tonnes!!). Still going strong a year later. I know they are not "cool" but would have no hesitation in replacing with same.

Slim,
Give me a call at
home. Since we last met I've fitted Kings/Koni
suspension to the GU. I got these for trade price via friend in industry. Also looked into the options on spring rates, etc and you can
check out the finished package on my beast, take for drive, etc.
Regards,
Hugh
