Post reply posts a new reply to a thread. Post follow-up replies to followup replies or to a reply. easy eh.

That said it depends on what you want your compressor to do. Diamond has a $130 (ish) one that was only marginally (like 10 secs) slower than my ARB one that cost about $350, but I dont know if it'll last as long. for that price you could go buy another, but if it carks when youre using it up bush somewhere then you're shot eh? The Bluetongue os about the same price as the ARB ands works faster. Its horses for courses I reckon me ARB ones the go, and if needed it can be rebuilt.

G'Day Peter.

I've got the Bushranger MaxAir and it is very good, if you get one you won't be disappointed.

Hi Peter,

in this months 4x4 monthly ( or 4x4 australia, i just forget now ) there is a comparo of a lot of air comp available on the market. Best idea is to get hold of the magazine and read the article and make up your own mind.

Regards

Bob

Peter,

There are Max-Air copies out there. I know Electric Bug are selling an equivalent for $179ish. And I gather theres similar on EBAY, but at least at Electric Bug, you can have a look and they stand by what they sell.

Peter,
we bought the Bushranger Air Max and its a rippa. For the money you cant go past it. We have done the Simpson and beaches all up the cape and the ease and speed that we could reinflate the tyres was great.
Cheers

Compressor comparo in 4x4 Australia Nov 04

They gave it to
ARB (Australian, solid performer, parts availablity)
Bushranger Max Air (Competitive consistent performer at top end of ladder, value for money, 5 year warranty)
12 Volt Gear (value for money, similar pump to Max Air but less warranty)
Oasis trailhead (out and out performance but expensive)

See latest 4x4 Australia for full write up and cost, airflow and time from 15psi-30psi comparison, time to reseat bead, and pressure from flat at 2mins.

RRP on the Bluetounge IV is pretty similar if not slightly cheaper than the Max air. I went through these motions over the last few months and ended up going to the Blue Tounge. I was worried, the max air (on paper) looked un beatable, but since having the blue tounge in real life situations several times already I am so happy I went that way. I'll never ever look back.
The Blue Tounge is the only 12v compressor in that class with an unlimited duty cycle. The Max air is 40mins. Ok so your thinking that's ok, you can do your tyres and a mates in half that. Ah ha! Now comes the paperwork tricky stuff. It's rated at 40mins @ 24c ambiant temp. So when it's a 42c day on the beach how is that going to effect performance, not only your duty cycles but your speed too, these cheaper made compressors become very ineffeciant as they get hot, components start to expand, seals start to leak pressure ect etc. Just because the electric motor's thermal cut out has not tripped does not mean that the rest of the thing is'nt melting down around itself.
Sure it's got a 5 year warranty, great, till your on a hot beach with your tyes at 12psi and it's crapped itself with a 70km drive to the nearest town.
My blue tounge pumped up 8 tyres to road pressure, 4 to 42psi and another 4 (bigger ones) to 32psi. I was timming it with my watch and to the second it maintained it's air flow rate from the first to the last. I was putting exactly 2 mins a tyre in with exactly the same pressure's (for the same type of tyre).
Just MHO, but look into it a little further and don't think that whats written on the box is gosspal, I'm sure we've all had promises made by sales people and specs sheets only to be dissapointed.
But don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Max Air is one of the good ones, I just think personally for the money the Blue Tounge is much more hard core. You only have to look and listen to them running side by side to see that.

I paid $350 for mine. RRP on them is $395. Pretty much the same as the Max Air, although Eric on this forum can do you a good deal on the max air that would make it cheaper than the blue tounge.
