Hi Formites,
has anyone got a tip as to a leaky hilux gearbox? 94 xcab LN111
I drove from
Sydney. 14k E of Cammoweal, I hooked up a bloke who was broken down and towed him to the Cammo roadhouse. Arrived at 3ways and while pumping diesel I saw a small pool of oil (smaller than my hand).
Gearbox, front tailshaft and cross member coated and ready to drip some more. Checked level and topped up with about 400ml. Gasket goo onto reverse switch, nipped up all bolts, removed consol and nipped gear shifters on top also. Breather cap seemed loose enough, I think it was working
No further top ups req, (9000k total to homel) but persistant leaking, coating, dripping. Transfer box at good level so no oil transfering from there. It seems to be coming from top of box but it is hard to see.
I await your valued knowledge.

I had a mate with a single cab 94 diesel and it was doing a similar thing. It seemed to be leaking between the gearbox and the transfer case, on the gearbox end of the 'spacer plate' that joins the two. We tightened all of the bolts up and that seemed to fix the problem - and still no more leaks after a trip to
Bathurst Bay so either we fixed it or it has all leaked out!
Good luck!
