My first post, so I hope it all goes
well!
I'm looking to take some friends into the Blu Mtns NP in a couple of weeks. I've previously scouted the general route, but things change and I'd appreciate the up-to-date knowledge of you kind people. I have searched the forums, but some answers remain.
1. Is it possible (considering the low dam levels especially) to take the 'back' route to Yerranderie via The Oaks and the Dam? Am aware of locked gates adn NPWS numbers to call, but will I get a null response? Any special mentions I should give if I do call in order get a positive response?
2. Is Limeburners closed or open? Thought it was great when visited about a year ago, but seems like it might be closed now? Any confirmation?
3. Apart from Wollondilly, are there any other areas open for fishing in the Mittagong / Limeburners /
Dingo /
Oberon areas that are recommended?
4. Would like to try some steepness and mud/
water that isn't 'out of bounds' - any suggestions? Limeburners and
Dingo are good, but any other thoughts?
Suggestions welcomed.

Haven't been there for years. My mother grew up in Yerranderie, my grandparents ran the
Post office and Butcher
shop.
Mum swears that some miner stashed away heaps and heaps of silver somewhere up The Peak and never came back to collect it after a trip into Camden.
There are heaps of trout in the Cox river.
Good luck.

i did the round trip, down to mittagong out through wombien caves, through lime burners , to yerranderie, back out to kanangra walls, and back home in the blue mts, just after
easter, i found that the directions in my discover aust by 4wd drive book, to be spot on with distances and directions, easy 3 days drive, first night
the caves second night yerranderie, cant wait to do the trip again and spend a bit more time at
the caves.

Were very good , along with an appropriate map.
Same route as yourself.

know the area
well. my grandfather had half his property(6000 acres Mountain Vale) resumed when
warragamba dam was built in the fifties . this resulted in the old house and woolshed on the 2 mile stored
water limit being bulldozed and a forced move several
miles upriver.
Also necessitated the construction of 16 km of 4wd acces in from wollondilly
post office on wombweyan caves road out of mittagong.
I spent my childhood and teenage years in the burragorang valley. what a place to grow up and learn to drive.
family sold up in early 80s when dads oldest brother died .
while private property
Water board used to keep pretty close eye on things but over time control has passed to NPWS and unfortunately they have brought up a few of the blocks and have actively encouraged present landholders to discourage access by locking gates and erecting signs( ?legal standing) prohibiting access even tnhough there is gazetted public roads all the way to wollondilly river.
I know that the
water board owned the land on the western side and although it is leased for rural purposes they have legally stopped access to /from yerrandrie from that side of the river.
i can only tecommend the yerrandrie trek notes from this site and discover Aust by 4wd wjhich i have found accurate as options are limited to the extent I have heard of pushbikers being charged wuth tresspass for entering from the Camden end via the coal mines.
Havent been back for 20 years years but i would love to take my teenage kids back.
The oldest (25yo) can remember us rescueing
brumbies bogged in dry dams in the 82/83 drought.Still have the photos.
no power , no phones, 80 km as the crow flies from
sydney yet 2hrs by 4wd/ 1000
miles from civilisation. we had trouble getting station hands,
bleepthey even get mobile phone reception these days.
some call that progress
