...... and I get to eat it as well!!!!

Yep, and this is gonna sound like a plug, but it ain't!

As some of you may know, I made a quantum leap into the digital age with the purchese of a couple of digital camera's.

One of them is a Canon 300D, which is an extension of my EOS 300 Film based unit.

Anyway, I shoot RAW, for reasons I won't go into, and they occupy around 7 MB each.

I also have 3 x 512 MB CF cards, which = around 210 images.

Now......... here's the good bit...........

I am an Apple user, and along with my Apple computers, I also have a new 40 GB iPod. Love my music!!!!

I just took possession of a Belkin Media Reader, which is a dedicated card reader to interface only with the iPod. Transfer rates are very, very fast. Then I simply hook the iPod up to my Laptop, drag the files over onto the desktop. All very fast.

I have approx. 20 GB of music, which leaves me room for 2925 x 7 MB Raw images!!!

I is one happy Wolf....... ( iWolf )

Oh, just one thing, the Belkin reader uses 4 AAA batteries, and they will only last for around 3 GB of data. Gonna have to look into this......

Cheers

No, not yet.

Funny thing, I bought a U-Beaut Battery charger from DSE, but a lot of things don't like rechargeable batteries. Don't know if I can use them in the reader, be cool if I could, cause I'm going away for nearly 3 weeks in the desert, and don't want to lug my laptop around.

Did you hear about the Energiser Bunny?
Put his batteries in backwards, and he'll keep coming & coming.........

Cheers

Wolfie, if this whatsitsname reader gadget is to be used in the car, why not fit a dedicated outlet for 6V?
I got 3 additional outlets on my dashboard, a 4,5V one for the portable CD player, a 6V outlet for the hand held UHF ( these two oulets have sockets with different size centre pins) and a permanent on cig lighter socket for the GPS.
The different voltages are easily derived via an adjustable regulator each, from the 12V line.
DS sells the little 3 pin regulator chips, they are good for 1 Amp with a little heat sink. The circuit for it is in the back of the DS catalogue.

G'day Wolfie,
Mate, sorry, but you lost me after just a few words......... I think you're talking about taking photos......but I think you're taking a bit of a risk mentioning on here that you take pictures in the RAW.......or is it the subjects of your photos who are in the RAW??? haha
I'd love to know what all those words you wrote actually mean......maybe one day when I grow a brain, eh?? LOLOL

Hi Wolfie,

If you have a battery chager (digitor?) from Tricky Dickie's then you should have no problem whatsoever in using rechageable AAA Batteries. (NiMH type)

I now only use this type of battery in all my electronic gizmos that run off AA or AAA batteries.

The Digitor Charger will charge both AA and AAA and the Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeables last a considerable time between charges.

G'day all,

wot me worry....I'll stick with my Pentax SLR (ME Super) for now. Still haven't made the leap to a digi camera. Ye Gods! I am still getting used to having a CD player in the dash!
Wolfie, I see you have some new Flinders photos up on your website. Colours captured beautifully. This is where we all win with your technology and skill.

cheers,
Jeremy.

btw - 10 points for Pink Floyd, although I'll take them back if you play any Phil Collins in the bush.

Its funny when people say things like I have 40 gig of music.. You would not listen to that much in a week!

I now have over 30,000 MP3/WMAs at my disposal between myself and a mate...

I fit 170ish per CD in MP3, or 200+ in WMA format, and if you work out at ~4min each song, (unless you have Doors, bums and noses, or Pink Flloyd, at 10mins each LOL) is 11-13 hours of music..

When could you listen to 40GIG of music? Roll your car, and be trapped upside down, in remote bushland might get you thru it before you die! LOL

Hey Truckie

I've been meaning to follow up on this. Perhaps you or other EO forumites would be interested in swaping MP3 files to round out the libraries. Though it sounds like you've got yours fairly well covered.

My only prob is that at this stage I'm still running 56K modem .. bummer, but that'll change to cable in the near future when I relocate.

Just a thought.

Cheers

LOL you are a sick man Truckster, I think there'd still be plenty of music playing long after they had thrown dirt on top of the body.

Wolfie, one option a mate of mine does is make up a battery back using 4 D cells and a plug that fits into where you plug the external power, I tried it on a digital camera of mine once....and have to admit I was $hitting myself when I turned it on, it didn't cook it, but it also didn't work the first try and I didn't have the nerve to try again.
