Hi All
I own an 1984 Daihatsu F60 Scat 4WD with an 2.8L 4cyl diesel engine. The Scat got a manual glow system similar to the old Toyota HJ45/47 LC diesels and I am having problem with the glow system. There is no power going to the glow plugs (which are new). At the relay there is power going to the relay (12.4V) but no power coming out of the relay to the glow plugs. I can hear the relay click-in with I attempt to glow but still no power to the plugs. The engine is in good nick (280,000kms) and starts well in warm weather but no go in cold mornings (not without 15mins of cranking). The relay looks like someone opened it before to it get working before and I got the local Auto One store chasing a replacement at the moment. Could there be something else to look for?
Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Sweeney
If you get stuck trying to find a relay I can maybe help you out. The Daihatsu part no. is 2861087602000. There is stock in the Sydney warehouse any Daihatsu dealer in the country can order this for you.

Yeah sounds like to relay is knackerd, just go to a wrecker and buy a Rocky or hilux relay, undoublty the same as yours, take it with you so you can check.

My mates air horn did a similar thing, the relay "ticked" you could here it, but it was still not giving the voltage out the other end, changed it over and Whamo she was away.

Thanks guys.
I thought the relay was knackered. If the guys at the local Auto One cannot find one, I will go to and wrecker. I think the Rocky (maybe even Hilux) relay is timed one and may not go into my scat without modification (unless they have a separate timing circuit). From memory the relay is the same size/shape/voltage as the HJ47 glow relay (My old man got an HJ47) and shouldn't be hard to find. We see if it comes to that. I would like to avoid ordering one from Daihatsu if I can, as the price will be high plus a week to two weeks waiting for it to come in as I am in WA (thanks anyway Stevie).
I will let you know what happens.

Cheers

The glow plug relay in my scat is already an manual glow. The actually relay itself seems to be faulty and I was quoted $150.00 plus $10.00 freight ex-Sydney for a replacement. I going to try to find a replacement through wreckers.

Hi Sweeney/Davoe
Just went out to check under the bonnet of our 98 78 series with manual glo plugs and the relay rating was 180 amps, a lot more than I thought
If the relay woun't pull in I would use a screwdriver to short it out for 10 seconds, instead of cranking the motor for 15 minutes

Thank guys for the help.
I got a new relay on order and hopefully I will recieve it this week. I got another car to drive around in and Scat is just a weekender.
When you fix one problem, you will find another. Murphy's Law with vehicles...
