No, but I have been down the Canning and I reckon the width of the wheelbase would make it slow going due to the "normal" wheel tracks. It just means you will be pushing through loose sand on one side of the track.

No reason not to do it though, the top end has trees right up to the edge of the track so you will end up with a few scratches.

CAN'T SWEAR TO IT BUT I BELIEVE THE H2 SUT IS BUILT ON THE SUBURBAN CHASSIE. I DID THE BOTTOM END OF THE CANNING TO WELL33 LAST YEAR IN A 100 SERIES CRUISER AND EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH TREES ON THE EDGES OF THE TRACK.
I BOUGHT THE HUMMER MAGNETIC TRUCK SHEILD OPTION WITH THIS IN MIND,JEFF.O

The local Hummer dealer is running a special on the H2 this weekend.

Recommended price $48,000 --- special this weekend on their stock of 52 new H2's is $37,999.

This compares to the best price of $52,000 for a Landcruiser.

The H2 is just a chev truck with a Hummer look alike body on it. Most of the drivetrain etc is from a Chevy Tahoe from memory.
Yes it is very similar in size to a 100 series so should have no probs but will accumulate some pinstriping.
My Humvee (civilian version is called Hummer or H1) is 200mm wider than a 100 series.
In sand I've compared the tracks and I'm running the full 200mm wider on the actual tyre track as the tyres are right at the extremities.
I'd reckon that fuel will be the biggest prob as it will use a bit, at least as much as a petrol (carby) GQ.
Just checked the specs, overall width of a H2 minus mirrors is 2.062m and track is a tad under 1800mm which would be very similar to a GU or 100 series.

This is AM General's (Humvee/Hummer manufacturer's website).
They are not part of GM but sold the Hummer name to GM for marketing purposes. Also helps keep a relatively small military contractor viable.

THANKS
THE PINSTRIPING SHOULD BE SOLVED WITH THE MAGNETIC SHEILDS
I KNOW THE FUEL USE WILL BE EXCESSIVE. I HAVE JUST GOT THE H2 SUT OFF THE BOAT AND WILL HAVE A BETTER IDEA HOW MUCH I WILL NEED TO CARRY AFTER I DRIVE IT AROUND A BIT

Better take your caps lock off you're shouting!

I've got a friend here in Sydney that has done about 4 or 5 conversions to RHD on H2's. You would never know that they were ever LHD.
Who is doing yours, somewhere down there I take it.
Email me direct if you want to.

H2 Hummer -- probably the best marketing ploy ever thought up by General Motors - take one of the worst 4WD's chassis available and put an ugly square box with half size windows on top of it with the aerodinamics of a brick outhouse.

Anyone one who would take one down the Canning with need a support team of Togos or MQ's to tow in their fuel supplies for the hourly fillup.

Jeff, As some one who peviously worked for the Melbourne agent for Hummer I drove the v8 diesel on many occasions.
The fuel economy was woefull, and the tank much to small.
Driving to Albury for a trade show we could not make on a full tank ex Melbourne.
In the High country the wheel base meant that one wheel was in the ruts and one out, this meant your were driving at a severe angle most of the time.
Often squeezing between trees was a problem also.
The dealership sold 6 machines before opting out, and the warranty returns were very regular, one returned over 20 times for repairs.
However in fairness most of the problems were with the right hand conversion done in W.A.
They are fun to drive,I liked it when you stopped at the lights and the body just rocked on those massive coil springs.
The diesel performance is similar to a GQ Nissan Diesel in standard form, not bad considering its weight.
Very little usable room in the cabin though for its size.
As for the Canning,Okas do it so you should be Ok but another correspondant is correct about the srub at the edge of the road, lets just say I would not mind following you to protect my paintwork.
Regards

FOURSTALL2000
MY HUMMER IS THE 2005 H2 SUT.
IT ONLY COMES WITH THE VORTEX 6000 6 LITRE V8 ENGINE.
I2 HAS A 32 GALLON TANK WHICH WILL GET ME ABOUT 500 K .
THE CONVERSION WILL BE DONE BY MC1 OF BRAYBROOK VIC
I DON'T EXPECT ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AS HE HAS DONE WORK FOR ME BEFORE AND I HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED.
AS FOR THE PAINTWORK PROTECTION ,I AM HOPING THE MAGNET SHIELDS DO THEIR JOB
THANKS

Fourstall, interesting your comment on fuel economy, I find my Humvee with 6.2 NA diesel uses about the same as my diesel Troopcarriers did.
It only has a 3 speed trans with no overdrive too.
Sometimes it will use a little more but never more than 1 or 2 mpg. On sand it uses less than the troopy and loaded or towing makes virtually no difference to economy.
With the 3 speed trans though touring speed is around 90 - 95 kph on the highway.
I've been over quite a few tracks in the high country as well as locally and haven't had any probs with the width except on narrow creek crossings where the combination of 130" wheelbase and 2160 width means the sills get used occasionally.
But as you say a hoot to drive.
