good evening all.
just got back from a sat night sleep over at firth park in the wombat state forest.
spent the night there with toonie and the guppies.
cought up with john, mad dog, bernie and toyolux while there.
well late saturday arvo they start rolling in motor bikes on trailers,generators,10000000 watt lighting systems, bon fires big enought to light the whole park, load music, swearing, yelling and screaming to who knows what time.toonie and i crashed about 3 am and it was all still going.
any way to the point.
there all up early in the morning packed up and off they go.(2 sepearte groups).
fires still lit, rubish piled 3 foot high, green trees lying around probly because they wouldnt burn.
guess what not one of them was in a 4wd.
yet on the other side of the camp was around 5 4wds camping must have been 15-20 people.they left just before us.so just out of curiosity i took a peek at there site.
and yes it was spotless.

This is the sort of letter that should be forwarded to your local area Newspaper, like letters to the Editor.

Most of us here on this forum, are the same as you, and do not require educating. It is another group, far from us that needs to be re-educated in outdoor activities. By bringing this up with your local papers, you effectively have widened your audience, to include those that have absolutely NO IDEA as to what is going on out there.

A lot of issues can be resolved by using the power of the printed press, because of it's large readership. Local politicians will also like to be seen as doing something constructive if this keeps rearing it's ugly head in a local rag.

Try it............

Best of luck

Mmmmmmm................

I am not aware of your local politics, and pending closures etc.

Thing is, the powers that be, probably don't care WHO is responsible, they just want to close it.

We still need to get a message across in the wider arena, to the general public, that we, the 4 wheel dive owners, are not all evil. Probably shutting the gate after the horse has bolted, but hey, if it's going to close, then you may as well have your say.

I don't know what the future holds for us all. I read with more frequency, the posts here about toilet paper & shlt left all over the place. Sad thing is.... it's left by people who have spent waaay more money than me & you combined on their 4 x 4's, and still manage to bugger things up. Go figure.

I don't think having us sit for licenses, or do courses on how to camp & drive 4 x 4's will help.... look at all the licencend people now that manage to kill themselves out on the open road.

I believe the answer is going to lay in the private sector, with managed campsites. Managed being policed, wether you like it or not.
The days are fast approaching when You can't go out in the wild yonder, and park your bum where you want, but you will have to check in at a local station property, get a key, same as a caravan park. Seems a bit harsh, but it may be the way of the future... knowing full well that the other people that are there, have also paid their good money to enjoy their stay, and would also like to go to sleep.

Cheers

Wolfie

Nicely worded Jim, you should send it on to DSE, not that they would probably care.

Timely reminder the "Bush Telegraph" hotline No is 13 28 74

Its a shame to see such a nice place & enviroment turn to sh** with idiots like that.

Will take the opportunity to say what a great day we had on the tracks up there
and pleased to say we saw a real wombat on Firth Rd in the Wombat Forest.

Cheers

The Wombat was a no charge bonus Bernie. Been there a number of times and the first time I've seen one. This fellow was obviously an early riser.

The Bush Telegraph...

If you report them, you have to be willing to go to court personally.

Then as you walk out, the 10 of them that have just been fined $5000 each would take 3-4 of your teeth each as down payment on their fines.

Thats the problem...

How about the EPA litterbug and exhaust smoke reporting scheme. Apparently many hundreds have been fined. Don't know how many have lost teeth though.

Ray..
The EPA scheme you dont have to personally front up and see the people you are acusing, and point the finger "IT WAS HIM".

This was brought up at our club meeting as to why it isnt working. People have to stand up point the finger, and walk out the door next to the bloke who he has just bleep on.. You dont think they are going to share latte's do you?

No your information is wrong Bruce. They will send out an on the spot fine, roughly about $200. If they wish to contest in court then you may have to front up but if found guilty then fine is around the $4000 mark.

All the info is on the EPA website.

if you have a look at the wombat site i think it lists all who have been present at the meetings incudung the bike groups maybe a copy of your post as an email to the president might be worth while although they would probably argue all the bikes were at phillip is for the races today but yes there are PIGS in all breeds

Fay D Away, you've probally hit the nail on the head. How many of us have good photo and video equipment??? I know I always take the Digital video camera when I go away. Luckily the only times I've had this problem were in large communal camp sites where you're kinda asking for trouble to stay at, but it still wasn't as bad as your description. But I'll keep it in mind now, if I ever am placed in that situation I'll just quietly video tape the bastards, take some clear photo's of the regos and hand it all off to the authorities, DV cameras embed the time and date into the video stream so there is no question it was them at that time. We use DV cameras for legal surveillance and PI work with no problems with the courts using it as evidence. By the time the morons have figured out you dobbed on them , your long gone!

Sorry to hear you had such a rough night Jim. Going by the amount of noise I heard that bike make these guys don't give a damn about anyone else. That thing was louder than a jet fighter. Other than banning bikes or putting a police station at every camp site I don't know what can be done.

Great to catch up with you and the family again.

I saw a bloke once fire a shotgun into the dashboard of a Holden Panelvan. At first he frightened the occupants off and then did the deed. Made an awful mess of the stereo. The sklence was deafening afterwards. They left in a hurry. It never made the press but I believe the panel van owners shifted back down south from up north soon afterwards.

It is always sad when one is forced to camp next to such a mob and the Wombat Forest has such heavy issues resting on it.

Like what was said previously take digital pic,s before and after and then post it with a shord explanation to the local rag.
See if something happens.
Yes many get punished for the deeds of the few, about time the situation was policed properly by rangers and such.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Mr Diamond, I wonder how many of the number plates you recorded as that is the best way for the police to track people like that. Yes the 4wds are the ones where attention is drawn but that is the responsible way to get them attended to. We have discussed that here before.

When we stayed the night at the Wombat earlier in the year with Baz and family the police actually drove around the campsite. I wonder why not this time. Must have been watching us...........

Hi Baz,

Hope all the family are well mate. Half expected you to make the pilgrimage on the one wheel drive last week end, then I didn't get to the other race a week back either.

Hope we can get up your way and catch up sometime....

Littering in Victoria can be reported to the EPA online. You need to register at the EPA site and if the accused wishes to have the matter heard in court you will need to appear.

The FAQ is here:

Gooday Jim,

Sounds like a sad end to an already shocking weekend for you, wouldn't have done the nerves anygood at all.

On Sunday, Mr & Mrs Al and I went to check out the Major Creek Reserve near Seymour. Picnic tables had pieces missing, rubbish everywhere, even old sleeping gear left up against a tree. The info board had been smashed up and all the doco removed, and the drop toilets stank. Doesn't appear that Parks Vic patrol it too often, and with only one sign covering the entire area advising users that there is no rubbish collection, it was disappointing. The place itself is nice, with lots of water in the creek, lots of shade, flat, free, and a fair sized area to camp, it doesnt look to bad a spot (barring the mess).

Not sure how to educate people, but maybe better signage would help, especially with all the money Parks Vic get each year from water bills.

Just my opinion.

Cheers
