Hi All,

I am around 3/4 the way through fitting a Safari Snorkel to my rig and wonder what the overall fit of the snokel is like on other readers Toyo 100 Series. It seems there is still a gap between the back of the snorkel and the lower guard where the snorkel transitions between the lower guard and the drivers side roof pillar. I have applied some heat carefully using a heat gun and this has improved the situation but I still think it requires more. The last snorkel I fitted to a different make and model than the Toyo fitted perfectly.

I am wondering if I should worry or take the problem up with Safari. I have fitted these before and the template location is fine, holes drilled as specified and all lines up with curvature of the guards and internal air filter boom box.

Stuart.

I'll look at mine tonight when I get home. It was fitted by arb about 2 months ago to a 2000 gxl.

Graham,

Thanks for that I look forward to your report back. I have got mine all bolted up, all be it temporary and the inner guard is still out. The funny thing is when I look at it from the side it follows the lower guard line and roof pillar perfectly but when I look from the front it has a gap where mentioned.

Regards,

Stuart.

I have had a look at mine last night: looking at the snorkel from the side, the rear of the snorkel body measures 8mm in front of the edge of the mudguard panel measured in line with the bottom of the "Safari" logo. There is no gap either front or rear between the snorkel body and the guard.

Thanks Graham,

I measured about the same on the guard as you. I have seen a few in carparks in the past 24hrs and the thing I noticed is the snorkel tends to be slightly angled across the car at the top on the pillar providing a closer fit at the bottom.

That is to say if you stood at the front of the car and looked at the snorkel body above the bonnet line it tends to run out of square with the drivers side pillar.....that is, it is not parrallel with the pillar which would bring the area around the lower body of the snorkel closer to the body where it transitions from the lower guard to the pillar.

What is your view when you look at yours? Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Stuart.

Hi Stuart, Looking fromthe front of the vehicle the pipe running up beside the windscreen is further away at the bottom as compared to the top. The lower section is approx 5mm from the windscreen moulding while at the top it is virtually touching the moulding.

Hope this helps -

Graham,

So I assume you are saying that when you look from the front the actual snorkel tube running up the pillar would actually look crooked although not that much. This is the only way that I can see that the snorkel body (about a 100mm above the writting) could fit snug on the lower guard. It perplexes me why they would design it this way.

Thanks for your help and I hope to repay the favour one day.

Regards,

STuart
