One of the shmbo I must answer to complained about her tojo ute lacking power. Despite my protests that it had more than enough to hurt herself in she made me change the fuel filters. In the element filter it was coated in some kind of light
grey petroleum jelly or something. It was a bit like wax but more fluid. Any ideas? btw heavy showers all day here in Kalgoorlie first rain for ages woo hoo

Is it that evil algae? If so you had better clean your
tank as it grows in there and you will be changing filters forever.

Davoe,
Are you living in a Bigamous relationship, or do you also have to answer to the Mother-in-law, the daughters, and the bitch (puppy dog) as
well as your spouse?

Davoe,
Diesel or Petrol?
I have no experience with algae in petrols but I've seen quite abit of it in diesels. (although never in a car, only big machines and boats).
There are several types and I have seen it as you describe. like
grey snot. I've also seen it looking like dark rust.
Fair chance it is algae because your normal fuel would quickly strip anything else away. Shouldn't be a great problem if it is algae. You simply need to get rid of the
water in your
tank.
Water is the catalyst so a quick
tank drain and new filter should get it out of the system. Atleast a 100 litre odd 4WD
tank is abit easier to empty than a 3000 litre boat
tank!
Anyway, hope that helps.

diesal algae crossed my mid and it does sound like you describe except it is very oily and doesnt wash off with
water. As prewviosly mentioned it will become someone elses problem

Has it been cold where you are? Chances are it is parrafin wax. I had heaps of trouble this year with our tractors. I bought in a load of diesel in feb/march this year and all was fine until the cold weather hit. Turns out there is summer diesel, winter diesel and alpine diesel. Summer diesel will wax up in the filters and the
tank on cold mornings. Once it warms up later in the day the wax melts/dissolves and no more problems until the next morning. You can add kerosine at 5% I think. Not 100% sure now but i think that was the rate Shell told me to use.
