Hi all
We are new to 4WD'ing and this
forum so please bear with me if I am asking the obvious.
We have a Prado 90 TX Auto and want to get into the recreational aspects of 4wd'ing - as a starter we are planning a trip to the Howqua region this coming Cup weekend for a 2 nite stay. I had herad of Sheepyard Flat as a good
camping area but on reading posts see that it can get pretty busy so looking for some suggestions.
We are self sufficient with
Camping gear etc and I remember my bushcraft skills from scouts so many years ago. Want to do a bit of fishing too - Fly (me) and spinning/bait for the kids and missus.
Haven't kitted out the Prado yet but doing the research now and fitting out is planned for early next year with a 4WD course. So we are looking for basic 4WD access points this time around.
Any suggestions of good spots or
places to avoid will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Sorry, I don't know the area you're talking about but Welcome! to the wonderful world of 4WD and the freedom to explore out of the way
places.
Suggest you do the 4WD course before spending too much on fit-out - as
well as having great fun learning valuable skills, you'll probably get plenty of good advice on what to spend you money on, and what is just trendy rubbish.

Hi Gazza
Re Cup Weekend Checkout

You should get some good local advice there.
Re 4WD Course: you learn something new every time you go out in the 4by specially in a group, which may or may not suit you.
IMHO the cheapest & best
driver training you will get is with a CLUB,
most clubs do
driver training, visit a few and see what suits you.
I'm with TLC vic & like you was new to 4WDing lots of "Play Doe's" there.
I like your choice of vehicle very capable off road, you will be amazed at what a Prado can do.

Gazz as said above a good club or similar will teach you some amazing things about your 4wd.
We take tag alongs and every year we get very new to the 4wd world away with us.
Some have every thing that opens and shuts with them and by day 2 they wished they hadnt. Most things look good in the
shop when the sales rep does it.
But do it every day and it aint.
All the best
eric
Ps I just re read your question and havnt answerd a thing that you asked about.

Gazza,
I would still look at the Howqua valley but there are plenty of other spots to go to like Eight Mile which is just eight up from Sheepyard. Folllow the maps for there. One good one is KHJ or King, Howqua Jamieson which covers those river valleys. Double sided it comes in paper as
well as plastic. Think it may be better than where a lot of the members are going in South Australia. Be like Flemington in
Robe.............

Gaz,
For a lot of your vehicle questions, there is an online group called LCOOL (Land Cruiser Owners On Line) - a friendly bunch, with a mail list for each model (ie 90 series) so any vehicle specific questions will be answered by those who have Prado's!!
They also have state lists, (ie LCOOL_Vic) and an Australian list (LCOOL_AUS), technical files for each model etc, and do trips together (how best to see how others kit their vehicle out!)
Check out www.lcool.org
