Hi All,
Here's the dilema. The girl wants a convertible...talked her 'round' to a 4by (will end up hand me down to daughter who loves the outdoors, may end up project like the Antmobile). So I am thinking late model Bunderra. Things to consider, air and P/S is a must says she. Reliable strong motor drivetrain, seats 5, says me. Having said that and knowing not a lot about Bundy's I throw this up.
If one was to buy say a late model TD of 3.? capacity what, roughly would it cost to remove roof, install canvas, Install P/S and A/C . Put it this way if I could pick, and it was for me, I would buy a Bundy with 5L V8, A/C, P/S, soft top and pay 10K? More practically 87 ish 3.4 (6) TD or (3.8 Holden motor conversion), A/C, P/S pay 3-9K?.
Am I dreaming? If anyone can point me to where I can find some spec info gladly appreciated.
Noticed in todays Trading post (Sydney) :-
1. Toyota Bundera 1985 Manual, white, 250000kms, air, pwr steer, cheap 4WD short wheelbase,Ready to go, 3 yr warranty avail, $2995. dealer.
2.Toyota Bundera 1986 soft top, white, good condition, $6850 negotiable.
3. Toyota Bundera turbo diesel 1986 four wheel drive Red hard top, 2.4L 5 spd manual, 192000kms, reg 5/2005, very good condition, $8500 negotiable.
See my dilema? All option considered, yes even Nissans/Maverick.
PS. Just talked her out of a 95 civic owned by a family member. Wipes sweat from brow.
Thanks Shane

Civic NOOOOOooooo! Few! hey?
Great trucks, had a mate with one, it had the 6 cylinder petrol and used to almost do wheelies! :-)

Just watch out for the rust in em, big problem. His was running fine in everyway and ended up just getting scrapped because the winscreen fell out and there was just no hope for her, to far gone rust wise. That one had spent many a day sitting by the ocean waiting for them to bring the boat back from fishing so it was probally a worst case, but still something to look out for.

A Must have - AIR CONDITIONING in a soft top?? WTF?

Go with a Vitara Zook. Thousands of them around, easy to get parts and highly mod them for cheap. You will get 10yr newer one than the bundy for same or less $ specially since your talking $6000!!!! Also will have less klms etc

Cheaper on insurance, tires, etc too...

$3000 for a bundy? Must be something special...

Truckster that's such a bloody vitorian comment! LOL
In WA you use the softtop in Spring and Autum, a 46c day with the sun belting down on you, your more likley to close the softtop and put the aircon on!
If your just goin down the beach you might have it off on a hot day, but blimby if you were doing a trip somewhere, no thanks!! (I used to have one, and yes it had air con!).

So you put the air cond on, and it cools down the outside world as it leaks thru most soft tops!

but I see your point. But I still say WOM!

Just doing my part to slow global warming! :-)

My son does his part too, at home when we have the air con going flat out and he leaves the doors wide open!! ARRGH!

Like I say to him "if it's too hot outside, play inside don't try and cool the whole bloody suburb down!!"

If the girl is young the TD will cost her a fortune to insure fully comprehensively.

I had one the one with the 2LT in it, indestructable motor, the 5 speed saw 280,000k's and is a dyna one in the 86 model, had a powerup done, intercooled it, front locker, 33's mudders, 4 inch suspension, 2 inch body, storage drawers, ralley 4000's etc etc, got 14,000 grand for it 4 years ago.

A shorty is a tough truck to drive on rutted out tracks, your looking at the sky all the time and not much storage room. Taught me how to drive, found it easy in the long wheel base...but then again drove suzis, GQ's, GU's, cruiser utes as well. If you can afford shorty GQ TD42, get it, more power, tougher etc.

Thanks Chris,
The girl is old enough, 33, however the daughter's 15. Dont do the maths...got lucky...well..yes/no...extended family. Any idea wot sort of money for a GQ TD42? the budget is 12ish.
I understand the ride quality not that of a LWB especially in the rough, thats why I wil be taking the Landcruiser.

Truckster,
Have angle grinder! Converted a Pontiac Parisienne that in my youth. But seriously I was thinking a lot of SWB 4by's have a fibreglass turret which may bolt off. Alternatively removing the steel roof and installing a soft top couldnt be that expensive, could it?

$500 I can wear. 8k for conversion! My sister in law had her leccy job replaced on her Saab or about that. Not after high end. Bimni for the boat would almost do for less that 2K.

The engineers to get it legal is $500 ALONE....

The work is extra... To get it done properly done will cost you around $8k

Hi Vuduguru,

I recently bought GQ TB42 SWB 1988 good condition cheeps of extras for $7. It is dual fuel and for $40 drives 300 km around city. Easy to park! My fiancé loves to drive it, but only off bitumen (she doesn't like the traffic on the road and still haven't got used to driving on "wrong" side of the road!).

Can fit 5, and still some room for .... shopping.

Thanks lukasz,

7$? Thats a bargain, 7k?. Think I saw one today, had a fibreglass roof over rear. Is this like yours and if so is the roof removable?

Mine is GQ hardtop, I was also thinking about removable roof, thus about MQ swb, but then a lot of people advised to get GQ.

When I saw that one I couldn't go past it.

If you want to see some pic go here.

Now I am a very happy GQ owner.

Very nice looking rig lukasz, and well equipped. And still a bargain! Web site isn't half bad either! Thanks for your input. Off to scour the Trading Post again.
