Greetings,

I think there are previous threads on this, but ..... AAMI has indicated that they can't offer me insurance for the camper trailer I've just ordered (Tambo Cooper). Very disappointing, given that every other policy I have is with them.

Anyway, my real question is - do fellow forumites have positive experience with insurance companies that WILL insure camper trailers, and any idea of premiums for about $7000 worth of cover (sorry, that 2 questions :-)?

Thanks,
Rob.

Gday Rob, I have my Trak Shak insured with AAMI, and when I initialy rang up and spoke to someone they said they don't insure them. hen I checked on here and saw quite a few people were covered with them, so I called again and talked to someone else who had no problems insuring it.
So I suggest you call again, if you still want to go with them, it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence tho, but like i said, I still insured mine with them because other people have said they were ok....we'll find out one way or the other when it really matters.

Gee pick me up off the floor. AAMI having no idea, and telling more than one story to different people..

If they cant get the first part right I reckon dont go near them with a barge pole.

Hi Robbg,

My offroad van is currently undergoing a $7K insurance repair after a too close call with a tree. To cut a sad story short, I managed to damage both sides of my van a few weeks back on a trip. But the real good news was the insurance side. They are completely reskinning both sides of the van and replacing the rollout awning. All I have to pay when I pick the van up is $50 excess and 15% towards the awning due to depreciation (~$170) - due mid November.

So I can thoroughly recommend TCIS insurance brokers, with the actual cover provided by CGI Insurance. Its not until you need to make a claim do you really know how good the company is. I often wondered whether I would be better off banking the premiums and "self insure", but after I only have good words about the insurance industry.

Cheers

Captain

Plus you'd probably spend the 'banked premiums' on toys! ;-)

My Camper Trailer is insured with AAMI. I had no problems with them.

Thanks Blue, enjoy it.
I have to wait another few weeks for mine :-(
Oh well, at least I should have it for the Prom in January.

Thanks to all who responded. I'll investigate the insurers that have been mentioned, but I don't think I'll persist with AAMI.

Rob.

RACQ insured my Assie Swag at $25000 with $2000 for fridge and other 'non-attached' items for $280.

Classed as caravan insurance but they will not cover anything inside the canvas when the CT is erected as it cannot be secured (only clothes and bedding in there anyway). If it is closed and locked then 100% coverage. They will cover the canvas though if it was slashed to gain entry.

Rob, just be careful with any of these policies, especially for a CT. Most either do not fully cover the canvas, or apply a heavy depreciation schedule to it so by the time it's about 3 years old, you'll get virtually nothing for it.

I'm insured (for $9,500) for about $170+ premium with NRMA because their cover was better than AAMI (with whom the vehicle is insured). However, you can get better coverage (especially on the canvas and camping gear) via TCIS if you are a member of an affilliated 4x4 club.

Hmmmmm, wasnt AAMI doing the poll on 4WDs? Maybe they are looking at polling CTs also because of what pulls em.
My "trackabout" is with RACQ. No problems what so ever.
