I feel really dumb, first time posting and the technology has blown me away, I have a Garmin 12 which I bought about five years ago and it sits on the dash of the Prado, used quite often, is there someone on site who lives in
Perth and is able to help me to work through getting set up with the gps ( or a new one ) in order to get up to scratch with what you guys are talking about, my wife and I go four wheeling a lot but no one in the club seems to be up with the new stuff, I also bought a cable to connect the gps with my laptop but when I rang Tricky Dickies last night to get the adaptor from a nine pin serial to a usb port it is $69, I thought it would be a ten buck part, anyway, I wouldn't know what to do when I connected to the pc for a start, jeezzzz, why am I so dumb..... Been there , with ports that is lol . Make sure you get the black usb convertor not the silver one . Its the only one that works . Once you run the drivers , it will work ok .

Nifty,
For GPs accessories and advice try www.gpsoz.com.au. They are a
Sydney baised company and do mail orders etc. Very good with their prices etc.

It may be a dumb question, but, do you have soft ware on the laptop to talk to the GPS like oziexplorer ?
I know what its like, but if you do have Ozi, you can down load a manual from their web site that will take you step by step.
Hope this helps

No Vince, I don't have that software yet, I am just learning about things that are available for the gps, this site is all new to me and I am not up to scratch on what is available, I use my gps all the time and thought I was pretty good but now I read about all the new stuff with digital maps and gps's that can download those maps etc and I realize how far behind I am, I am heading up the
Gibb River Rd. again next May for a few weeks and then across the top of the Country, through North QLD. and on down the East coast for the rest of the year, so if I can find out what to buy and how to use it then my trip will be a lot less worrying, I will be getting off road where possible, my wife and I are into being comfortable with safety, we will be towing the off road
Albany camper...

thanks Clive, I tried to send you a message but apparently I have to be a member before I can do that , so now I will see how to become a member, you can email me if you like, I know putting my email on a
forum is not a good idea but I have to chance it, I can handle any problems that arise from that.. niftytwo@iinet.net.au.... thanks....
