Has anyone tried the coleman collapsible ovens? I am tempted by:

1. One of them,
2. A Cobb, or
3. A dream pot.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

I would think each and everyone of the above has its own specialty uses.

I am happy with my Cobb but you need to practice to get the timing and temperature working well. It does a good roast leg of lamb and damper and bread and butter pudding all on 9 heat beads. If this is what you like to eat while camping it would be hard to beat for ease of use and fuel requirements. (If you search for "COBB" in here you will see photos and comments on other posts.

I havent seen a collapsible oven so can't comment.

I saw the dream pot at a show and didn't like the fact that you would have to start cooking the meal and then it continued in the dream pot. Some love it as your meal is ready at the end of the day.

I guess whether your continually on the road or stopping for a while in the one place has to be considered also. I received my Cobb as a birthday gift and am pleased with it but Sparky thinks it takes up too much room and would rather have a wood fire with a small gas stove as a back up.

Looked at the Coleman, got the other 2.

Each unit plays a different role. Have a look at my website, and you will see the missing link!

Picked one up at a sale in Broken Hill last year. Have used it to do cup cakes & biscuts( Not cookies like Baz).
My one was only $20 and at that price it has been worth every cent.

Yep bought one a few years ago and used it many times, mostly to cook G/F bread,
keep heat down for best results.

Your right there Pesty. We found that it needed a piece of foil over the wire shelf to give a more even heat.
Great to ask fellow campers if they would like a cupper and some fresh cake when camped on the side of The Cooper. You shpould have seen the look on the faces.

Your right about the price Baz, Iv's seen them for $0 or $80 and that why I grabbed this one, not offten in the right place at the right time

Have you considered a Camp Oven?

Hillbilly make a great product.
Can use campfire coals, heatbeads, or even a gas attachment when there's a fire ban in force.

I own and have tried a few and ended up with one that will do anything.

I have seen the hillbillies and like the lid, but we already own two bedourie ovens (big and small) which are great when you can have a fire, but so many places these days ....

Thanks

Thanks to all of you for your input. We picked up a Cobb from Snowies in Adelaide and so far have cooked:

A chicken dinner,
scones,
bread,
a self saucing pudding,
fruit buns, and
a roast beef.

Yum

cheers
