Lone Wolf
... told someone the other day, that the South Australian National Parks & Wildlife is looking at tendering out some security work.
Now, I don't think it's to stop people stealing kangaroo's, so what could it be?
Checking up on us guys I bet....
"Please move on sir, you are taking too long to take that photograph."
"Do you have you Photography permit?" Don't laugh, it's already a reality.
"I just need you to completely empty your 4 wheel drive sir."
The mind boggles.........
I do know one thing........... all the prices will definitely go up.
Cheers
Wolfie

News Release 1 November 2004 Illegal Tour Operator Prosecuted in Parks Operating a commercial tour in National Parks
reserves without a licence could cost you up to $5,000. That’s the warning from the Department for Environment and
Heritage following a recent prosecution where a person was convicted and incurred significant costs for providing commercial tour operator
services within the
Coorong National Park, whilst not being licensed to do so under the National parks and Wildlife Act. Greg Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife said the prosecution involved an unlicensed operator who was found to be providing tour
services in the
Coorong National Park. “Commercial tour operator licences enable the Department for Environment to provide updated
park information to tour operators and ensure the public interest is served by tour operators holding public liability insurance and meeting appropriate standards.” The Department has been working with the general support of the tourism industry to establish standards and promote the requirement for commercial tour operator licences. By working together with tour operators to protect the beauty and diversity of the South Australian parks system we will ensure the ongoing sustainability of nature-based tourism in this State. “Whilst there are relatively few reported breaches of licensing requirements, the department is monitoring activities and persons providing commercial
services in parks without a licence risk incurring on
the spot fines or prosecution”. Mr Leaman said Under the National Parks and Wildlife (National Parks) Regulations 2001, activities in a reserve must be authorised by a lease, licence or agreement. Such activities include filming for commercial purposes or offering to provide any service for fee or reward, conducting competitions and selling or hiring of goods. Further information on commercial tour operator licensing can be obtained by phoning 08 8124 4818, email DEH.TourOperatorInfo@saugov.sa.gov.au or www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks
So, there you go. Rangers are stretched as it is.
For those of you that follow photography, and keep abreast of events, you would have read about the HUGE fiasco at Mungo.
We also have similar laws here in S A.
Just because I don't get out and about as much as others, does not make my posts crap Willie.
I happen to read a lot, listen a lot, and watch overseas trends. Don't worry, I'm sure you still have hero status......... somewhere.

So why didn't you post that in the first place, huh? Then it would have made sense.
Laws for Tour Operators have been around since Moses went for a tour through the Red Sea. I had a tour business up north in the late 70's and early 80's and even then National Parks were giving us a hard time and so we had to be covered for every event. This all happened when
Kakadu was being established in 1979. We(tour operators) had some ding dong battles with NPWS with all their silly ideas. After three years in the business I got sick of tourists and went and did something else.
You don't have to get out and about to post crap...Just sit behind the keyboard and let your mind wander. You have proved yourself at this, mate!
A Hero never claims him/herself to be a Hero....it is a perception of others....you either like me or you hate me...take your pick.

For Mungo Explorer...........
"What was the "HUGE fiasco at Mungo"? Are you referring to
Mungo National Park in NSW, or somewhere else"
Mungo Np. Some Uni students from
Melbourne went up there recently. A nice place to visit, as we both know, and some shots would look good from the Lunette in their final year studies for their arts degree.
Ranger got wind of this.
HUGE MESS!!
Faxes, Phone calls back & fro. NP wanted 5 million Public Liability before these kids could take another photo. Kids stayed on until the storm petered out.
Result, kids were covered by Uni, Parks = 0 People = 1. But the battle has only just begun.........
Some institutions & Parks are now deeming that if you use a tripod, you are a professional photographer. Just take a look at what some of the beachside councils are asking now. If you're not a Mom & Pop type point & shoot photographer............ look out, they have the right to search, and make life difficult, even if you are in the right.
In
Melbourne, security guards are wrongfully questioning photographers rights in public
places, thing is, they are not legally allowed to do so, but seem to be getting away with it, because they can make your life difficult.
Did you know that If you take a piccie of say
Wilpena Pound, and put it up on the net, and have not paid a fee, you're going down? Bullshlt you say? It's true.
Oh, when I went into the
nelson Caves in January, check this out...........
You can take photo's, but not video.......... I know the reason why........... but what with small palm camcorders that do both........... where do you draw the line?
