Have bought a 2nd hand Cameron Canvas Camper Trailer and want to insure it. Have not insred trailers before as the car insurance is normally enough, but not this time.

Looking for comments on who, why and how much for $7500 cover.

Cheers

I have NRMA insurance for my CT.

Mines insured for $7500 , and costs me about $180 per year.

Haven't had cause to use it though.

Good luck with AAMI, they wouldn't insure the Tambo CT I've just ordered.

I have a phone quote from CIL of $139.60 for $7000 cover. Still waiting to hear from GIO and CGU.

Ours is with SGIC : $4,900 for $58.61.
That'd be with 10% disc
Me old Dad who was an insurance agent for 55yrs used to say." There is no such thing as cheap insurance - you get what you pay for. Read the policy carefully, decide if it fits your needs then if it's value for money"
It always worked for me.

Cheers,

Jimbo, I reflected on this in a previous thread. I used the online quoting system with AAMI, then rang them and spoke to 2 different people. Both said the same thing - we can offer insurance on a caravan, but not on a camper trailer (canvas sides and roof).

Interesting Rob,

Thanks for the advice, I'll check that out with AAMI tomorrow.

Cheers,

Jim.

We had camper trailer insurance with NRMA for 6 years - final year was $275 for $12,200 of cover. Had a claim once - did it all over the phone and absolutely no fuss.

Swapped it over to our new caravan.

We're with NRMA, because of the better canvas cover than we could get with AAMI. TCIS are better (but may be more expensive) and you'll need to be a member of an affiliated 4x4 club.

Hi JamieMac,

Our Challenge campertrailer is insured with TCIS, which advertises in 4WD Australia. I can't remember how much we pay, but about the same as everyone else who has given you a reply. We haven't had to claim, but they seem very helpful on the phone. We have insured both the trailer and the contents (which includes fairly important stuff like clothes etc, as well as bedding and mattress).
Happy travels
Anni
