window tint is worth ever cent as long as you get good quality.I have had all my cars done since 1990.After having it you don't notice the differance in your car until you are in a car without tint in the direct sunlight. Recommend metalized film

I think it is worth it. It also makes looking into the vehicle a little bit more difficult so that a thief walking past has trouble seeing whats in your vehicle without going right up to the window. It makes it a bit harder also to see in at night which is a bonus when my wife is in the vehicle on her own. I mean its hard to see how many people are in the vehicle.

desray can you give a bit more imformation why you don't recommend Ash Cool. The Cruiser is going in to Tint A Car tomorrow to have their Fomula One tint put on which I believe is the next one up from Ash Cool.
But I would recommend window tinting, the other car has it and you can really notice the difference with the sun on the window when you wind it down.

You get what you pay for with window tinting. I had my troopy done with the top quality 3M stuff and it's still pretty good after 13 years. Some cheap tint jobs start bubbling after the second season. And, its a hell of a job (and expense) to get the poor quality film off and replaced with the good stuff.

Yes but as stated above good quality, protects the interior and prevents your arm getting burnt on long hauls.

Apparently NRMA did some testing of tinted vehicles and found there to be only a 2 degree difference. I heard this stated on radio so I am not sure of the validity of the study.

G'day,

I've had my last 5 cars tinted, and as stated above with top of the line tint. I don't care what the report says, the difference is significant. It may be that the temparature inside is only 2 degrees in their test, but that may be with Airc Co working 3 times harder. Tinting cuts out all UV rays and therefore stops you, the cars contents AND YOUR UPHOLSTERY from UV damage. Also stops things inside the car heating up as quick due to reduced radiant heat.

Plus, my wife had her drivers side window (side, not windscreen) smashed by a ladder on the back of a passing ute and the glass was held together by the tint. Didn't smash all to pieces in the car.

Tinting is the first option I asked for on the last 4 new cars I have purchased (Mazda 121, Commodore, Pulsar and Rodeo) and wouldn't have a car without it.

Am I being clear enough?

Highly recommended.

Cheers,

Smocky.

Smocky is right, not only does it protect the interior of the car the added saftey of the your side windows performing like laminated glass is a bonus especially with kiddies. Have been told that the best way to keep tinted windows clean is to wipe them with a chamois and fresh water. Some detergents and window cleaners can degenerate the film quality even in metalised films. Got both cars tinted within 1 month of each other, mine as an option with the 4by and the wifes from Premier, wifes car was cheaper but is already showing signs of wear after 18 months. (scratches and nicks).

It is money well spent but advisable to buy top quality.

Shizen,,,, all you have to do is wind down your tinted window when the 38 degree sun is beating through to actually feel the difference directly on your skin...
You can do a similar comparison by puting your arm right in front of a 200watt spotlight and then take it away and put it in front of your normal headlight....Same feeling....

I want to reiterate what Voxson just said, you can feel the burning sensation without tint, but not with, even on a 40 degree day. You can also see the difference when the window is 1/2 down, the shadow of the tint on your arm and you don't feel the radiant heat on the shadow. Is most definitely doing something. Also makes the air conditioner work 500% better as it is not competing with radiant heat through all the glass (especially on 4wds), and cools the cabin down a lot quicker. Also a must for carrying children/babies around as they generally don't wear sunnies and the glare can damage their eyes over a period of time. Also looks better. I say the above based only on having legal tint (35% I thinks), so for those willing to stick their neck out with the law, the benefits will be even greater.

Hi adamant,

we got the cruiser tinted before heading north this year, the tint alters in degree of darkness from front to rear, with the rear being the darkest. We've found it great on 2 fronts, one the kids are a bit cooler in the back as they don't have the sun boring in at them and two for security reasons - seeing what is in the rear of the car is very difficult now..[of course there are some that would argue that may encourage theives....]...as said above as long as you get a good quality you it's worth the bucks....

cheers

I fully agree with the comments made by Smocky and rengatt re the safety issue.

bleep tered the rear (large) window in the Jack on a recent trip and the glass held together due to the tinting film.
Just required the addition of some duct tape for additional support and the window held for three weeks until it could be replaced.

Quality tinting is definitely worth the investment.

Our family has had all of the vehicles fitted with Tint A Car Formula One since the mid 1990's with the exception of our 100 series cruiser that we had Toyota put Formula One when we bought it. What ever they used was not Formula one and the difference was noticable straight away.

We would strongly advise Tint A Car Formula One as the best one to get by far, you can notice the drop in heat coming through the window and there is no chance of getting sunburn through it..

My opinion
Doesn't stop UV - doesn't really make the car cooler, except for those people looking at it from the outside. Only makes it feel cooler and darker to those inside. If you keep your arms inside they feel the same in a tinted car as an untinted one. Good for appearance. Kids dogs and careless packers can cause a lot of damage. Scratches etc look ugly

Is it worth it? Your choice.

G'day Crowie,

not sure what tinting you had, but I'm surprised by your experience. I've had tinted cars for 10 years. The difference in heat through the glass is enormous and obvious. With regards to UV (the thing that damages skin, eyes, car interiors, children) all the good ones block 99% PLUS of UV rays.

Of course, if you leave a car locked up and switched off in the sun, I will guarantee they will reach around the same temparature eventually, but that doesn't take away from tinting's value when you are IN the car, nor the benefits of safety with broken glass (again which I've experienced) or protection for the contents of your car from UV rays. Also, as D-Jack rightly points out, your ait conditioning is MUCH more effective at reducing and keeping the interior cool.

It's pretty simply really, try wrapping your food in tin foil and putting it in a microwave. It won't cook because the film stops the rays that do the damage.

In my experienced opinion, money very well spent if spent on good film.

Smocky.

A friendly last opinion.
I'll admit it has some good points but I found with a 4wd that it gets damaged to easly. Had it on my previous, a GQ. I still don't think it cools the car down significantly, it just reduces glare sides and rear and a pair of $30.00 Polaroids does the same thing. Looks good, car feels cooler because its darker so you get to think the air conditioner is working better.
