Hi, we have just done Gulf and
Birdsville tracks and are seeking a good, reputable diesel mechanic in
Adelaide metro area preferably Western suburbs to get our Toyota Landcruiser 80series serviced. Can anyone recommend someone? Also we need to get our aircon fixed and rear window replaced. Any recommendations re that would be great also. Thanks.

Window Replacement:-
O'Brien Glass can give you a competitive quote on window replacement.
They will come to your property to do the job.
Is your Window broken?
You should be able to claim on your Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy, assuming you have one.

Yes, our front windscreen needs to be replaced and is definitely covered by insurance, will check out back one though. Back window is completely bleep tered. Happened about 140km south of
Birdsville, rocks are huge along that whole stretch.

Sounds like it was about the same location where I suffered a similar fate.
Maybe it was the same bloody rock!!!
Were you towing?
Just quote your policy number to the repairer and they will automatically handle the rest. Even includes cost of Window Tint replacement.

Sure are.
Camping trailer with boat on top. Stone guard either wasnt doing its job, came off boat or just a freak accident. Will definitely get window protector from now on. The rocks were also hitting side windows and front! Never seen anything like it!

Know what you mean.
That's why the area is called the Great Stony Desert :-)))

For a reputable mechanic who really undertsands 4wds, try Alltrac, 305 South Rd, Mile End. phone 8234 6877. Peter
Young is the boss. Bonus for you is that it's on the western side of
Adelaide.
Cheers

Rick,
As per your photo gallery I'll take a punt on your question.
Lake Eyre South on the Old Ghan Route.
Do I win anything???

Corrcet in that it is Lake Eyre South; it is on the side of the road on the
OOdnadatta track, which may be described as the old Ghan route.
You win the comfort of confirming you are good with S.A.
geography.
Bonus point if you can tell us the original name of this lake.

Well I wouldn't say I was any good with S.A.
geography. However I'm not too bad with Oziexplorer and Hema maps.
No idea what the original name is so I'll have to forgo the bonus point.

I have been advised to try Detrac Diesel (by a happy client) at St Marys - Quinlan Avenue. Need someone myself soon for a tune up - refuse to play the dealer game anymore ! Suggestion that the bloke there is a skilled, straight shooter (my regular mechanic is too, but doesn't do diesel internals).
