We are going to Straddie and was wondering as we have not been there before the best camping there Glenno said he will be on the main beach is this a good place doesn't matter if not powered we have 12v setup. If anyone is going from Sydney or south of Sydney and are leaving or passing Sydney around 1 or 2/01/05 and want company on the way up we can meet.

Baz.

Good "free" camping along main beach, but no water so it's a fair haul back to the Pt Lookout to top up.

We usually camp along Flinders, which is the top end beach between Amity and Pt Lookout. Been going regularly for years. That time of year will be crowded everywhere. We're heading over later in January (16th ??), usually much less ppls then.

Last year the fishing down at the Pin was tops.

Cheers

So the main beach is free sounds like us then cause with the ferry costs and what they charge for camping we were seriously thinking of giving it a miss. Your not going Rosco.

A bit of confusion hear Baz, by "free" I meant you get to select your spot from anywhere that's open for camping and not closed for revegetation.
Usual Redland Shire Council Camping fees apply everywhere.

It's a top spot and well worth a visit. We'll certainly be going over again, but not till later in Jan when the crowds tend to thin out considerably.

You'd probably enjoy your stay more if you can delay your times, unless you like crowds.

Cheers

Mate I think that Rangers Terry and Neil would be most surprised to hear that the Camping is "Free" on Main Beach. It is $3.50 per person night. Same as any Camping ground on Straddie. For that you get bugger all and have to tie the receipt on your tent rope or get fined. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Hi Baz . Eric here . I will be inbleepney on the 30th and leaving for Straddy on the 1st . In tow will be member Nick. Planning a half way stop in Coffs or Kempsy , depending on accomodation.

Rosco , forget the crowds and get your bum there before the 16th .

unless your worried that the Defender will bet stuck everywere and dont want us around to see it ;-P

The further south you camp on the main beach, the better you will find it, cross the aquaduct, turn right, and look for some camping in the dunes about 2/3 way down, some great spots there.

We are booked on Main beach. The ranger will come once a week during off peak periods and I dare say every day or two in peak periods. Its small beer in my mind to pay the fee.

I believe the camp grounds are numbered on main beach once you get a few kay's down. We will be in the Silver Dualcab TD Hilux with the canopy and awning on the roof racks. From 23rd to 5th or longer if my employer agrees!
