Thanks for reply's to post about Pajero diesel,
Father in law will take delivery of a new/demo deisel Pajero this week, will have a few hundred ks on it, but think he needs better tyres for bush work, which it will do plenty of, so out with the Geolander HT's and on with BFG AT's, so anyone in
Adelaide know the best place to go for a swap, 5 Geo ht's 265/70r16, for 6 BFG AT's and a rim ?
All help will be appreciated.
Cheers

Steve,
Merv will have to brace himself to be ripped off big time. They'll all tell you/him that the Geo's aren't worth any $$$ to them and will probably offer $50- off per tyre on the cost of the new ones. Sorry, but that's been my experience, even if they were brand new and never been driven on (as opposed to demo tyres which they will say are half worn out!!!).
Might be better off considering just buying the new rubber and selling the Geo's in the Trader, here on EO.

I know someone in NSW who wants a set of highway tyres for his NM! Freight would be a problem though.
I have a set which have done 11,000 kms, but I'll be swapping them for my AT's now I'm back from my big trip. I'll store the AT's until next time. About 2 years away - dam it!

Chris,
It's perfect for my use. Being an Exceed it has all the comfort gadgets and great on-road manners with all around IS.
With MATT it will go anywhere I want . I'm not hard core 4WD and mostly travel with just my wife - not in convoy. Ground clearance can be a limiting factor (It has more clearance than a Prado, though).
I had an NM Petrol for 3 years and did 120,000 kms before I sold it and bought the NP DiD. The NM was very smooth but lacked the low end torque I wanted for towing and I could never get it to drive past a service station when I had the van on the back!!! - liked a drink.
The NP diesel is a little noisy but lacks nothing in the "get up and go" stakes and has far better fuel consumption. For me, it wasn't so much the cost of fuel because I think over a three year or so period it's not as much as you think - it was the limited range of the petrol engine (about 300 to 350 kms with the van in tow). I wasn't prepared to put in a long range
tank and didn't like carrying petrol in jerry cans, either in the car or on the van rear bumper.
The Pajero is not everyone's cup of tea but it does suit me. Like all things, I suppose it's a compromise.

Steve,
I've replied to your MM.
I live in
Wollongong so I can't advise you where to go in
Sydney.
Someone on the
forum will know though. You could try any of the big franchise dealers, Bob Jane; Blairs; Tye Power etc.
When I tried to buy BFG ATs in May/June this year you couldn't get them. Some factory manufacturing problem. Maybe fixed now but you should check.
I strongly recommend that you get a 4WD steering/
suspension specialist to do a wheel alignment. The Pajs sometimes need shims to get them right and if your average tyre dealer doesn't do the right thing it's a waste of money and you end up with uneven waring tyres.

Rosscoe,
Thanks for the info. I took a 04 GLS DID Auto for a test drive the other day and was impressed by the vehicle, but was put off a bit by the engine noise while driving, but as you say the engine does have a bit of get up & go. (Have a 60 series Turbo Diesel and am probably used to it's noise once your moving)The lower panel at the front (intercooler I think) was a bit of a worry for the terrain that I go to ( stumps etc). The interior I like also. The only problem was that they had no more 04 GLS DID and tried to steer me into the 05 model and for that price ($60,000) I can pick up a runout 100 series V8 or a new Patrol Diesel for less, so back to the drawing board.

Chris,
Mitsubishi sell an alloy skid plate to replace the OE, steel one. The alloy one definitely provides better protection for the intercooler. Costs about $450.00 though. Helped save me from doing damage crossing the
Pascoe River on Frenchmans Track NQ.
I've had made up and fitted an alloy plate to replace the plastic (yes plastic) sump guard. Cost me a bout $200.00 but I think TJM have a steel one now for less bucks.
The engine is noisy at low sppeds but at cruising level it's not a problem at all.
Check out www.pajeroclub.com.au for info.
The 373 Nm @2000 rpm just suits me perfectly for towing. The auto with tiptronic is just a dream and a very "clever" gearbox. I woulldn't entertain a manulal now that I have this auto.

I have to agree with Roachie on this one. You could try Used Tyre Mart on South Rd Edwardstown 83742612 or Wingfield 82444202. I was in the Edwardstown store yesterday but didn't see any BFGs, they had lots of others new and used and a huge range of rims available,

I got $150 for my brand new spare when I changed over to Coopers. Bloke said that's about the best he could do, I was happy with that.

Gday Pesty,
The following
places offered me $150 each for my 5 GO39's 4 years ago when they had done 3000km's.
Fred Vella-Edwardstown
Bob Jane- Gouger St. (Glenn)
The best cash price I found was Tyrepower at
Brighton.
That trade price was for 5x265/70/16 BFG's.
BUT that was paying $270ish each for the BFG's, at the time a negotiable cash price was around 240-250.
You gotta watch BJ as they will try and sell a set steak knifes as
well if they could.

Steve,
Also, I would suggest Merv look at getting 265/75s rather than 265/70s...they tend to be a size that is more popular and easier to get at most
places.

ross deal above might suit him as he will be in
sydney b4 xmas with it so might be able to do deal.
26 mm taller tyre , have to check to see what difference it will make to speedo, as it will concern him, unlike you and me lol

Steve,
You or Merv should check out the following web site. There's a wealth of Pajero knowledge there
www.pajeroclub.com.au
You will find that the NP speedo reads about 5% high at 100 kph and the odometer reads high as
well. At a speedo reading of 100 kph your real speed is about 95 kph
Lots of Paj forumites have the larger tyres and from memory it fixes the factory error, but you should do a search on that
forum or ask the question.
There is also a special
forum topic for people to buy and sell.

Steve,
"Techicnally" the taller 265/75 tyres exceed the 15 mm limit and a therefore illegal.
You mighten worry about that, but what about the "outlaws"?
Roacie's right though, they easie to get.

I'm with Roachie, get the 75 series tyre as they are a light truck case with a substantially better load rating. the speedo will hardly move, i went up 70mm in tyres and the speedo is only 5ks out , which can be corrected with a $50 jaycar kit and a gps to calibrate. Popular tyres can be a bit harder to get sometimes when stocks get low, i had to wait over a week for my 265/75/16 MTR's to be found.

I put 75 series Cooper ST's on my NP and the speedo is now spot on, checked it with a GPS on the weekend at it was always within 1Km/h and also with the speedo check marker posts on the freeway it came up spot on.
