Still planning my big trip in Oz with my soon-to-be wife in March. We are planning to go from Adelaide to Perth then head north along the coast the broome, thru Kimberleys, Kakadu, down the centre and back to Perth via the Gunbarrell seeing everything along the way. We plan to take about 7-8 months. I have convinced her that there are a few bits and pieces (that's how I put it across) that we need to get to make this trip as happy and trouble free as possible. I have compiled a list and an estimated cost, I would like forumites advice on a good place to get this stuff and any better prices that have been paid. Also any decent cheaper alternatives.
I thought I might try Ray's for the Fridge, EPIRB and Jack and see what price they can do.

Exide Extremes x2 $155 each (My current batts are almost dead)
Waeco CF-40 $799
EPIRB $200ish ???
High Lift Jack $120
ARB Magnum Hand Winch $395
Bead Braker R&R full kit $385

I have been a good boy this year, I hope santa is feeling generous...

As always the trading post is a good start and every now and then some of the items you have mentioned end up on Ebay. I have seen Waeco's in the trading post not that old at very good prices.

Enjoy the trip. Ken

I agree with Ken. My wife and kids and I are doing a similer trip in late april and have been setting up our 4x4 four the trip. I picked up a cargo barrier and long range tank for $480 out of the trading post. The rest of your prices seem about right. Another place to try is cash converters;I bought a Magnum winch with Black Rat recovery kit for $210 and a Black Wolf 5 person tent (brand new) for $110.

I'd go for some Caterpiller batteries myself. 650-700 cca's, 5 year pro-rato warranty and probably cheaper.

Whoever sells Caterpiller machinery and spare parts there in SA. Here in WA it's Westrac.

Spook
I can buy an Exide Extreme here in the sticks for $130 so I think you could save some dollars if you had a good look around. Century N70ZZL 4WD battery also at $130. It is 700cca. Can't help you with the rest.

There are at least 4 different Exide Extreme batteries for 4X4 and light commercials. Perhaps this is where the price difference is and not the retailers profit. Go to the Exide web site www.exide.com.au and have a look.

From my experience the sales guys at Rays have a noose around their neck, they have no barginning power. They lost a $1000 dollar garden furniture sale from me all over a $20 delivery fee, went elsewhere and ended up getting the same thing a coupla hundred cheaper. Fridges are excluded from the 20% sale days.
