Actualy Baz
the flag flown at eureka stockaid did not unite us, it was a flag of devision & was flown by largely itinerant miners from irish back gruond rebelling against british rule.
the flag we have now is the first flag that we have flown as a representation of our nation hood, even then we did not fight under it as a nation till the second world war.
during the first world war we fought under the union jack as empire troups.
long live the flag of our nation may it only be changed by demacratic means , for any flag that replaces it agianst the will of the people will fly from a blood soaked pole.

I think you'll find it wasn't until Vietnam, the current design was introduced in 1953 though a competition. And eureka uprising was about unfair taxes on all miners in Vic.

I think that you will find that we fought under the Australian Ensign in WWII.
Not the Australian Flag.

Any Flag that is truly Australian will do me; that is to say we don't need another country's flag in the corner of our's.
I have English and Irish blood running through my veins, but I am Australian.
My dear old mum was born in England and moved to Australia when she was 11 in 55 and considers herself an Aussie and nothing else. My cousin and his wife arrived here in 81 and don't dare call their children POM's.
Choose to live in a country, be part of that country.
My choice is the flag of the Eureka Stockade, but that is only my choice.
Cheers,
Jim.

There is nothing wrong with preserving a little history, the problem is once you start making changes and omitting history, everyone wants a piece of the action, before you know it you will have all minority groups rewriting the history books. Lets just leave it alone.. Michael

I don't like any of them ... they somehow look like logos rather than the flag of a nation.

Call me a traditionalist but........................
Firstly, both my grandfathers served this country under our flag, my father and uncle served this country under our flag, my wife and I have both served this country under our flag, so I kinda have an attachment with the current one.
But, if we were ever to change it, I would want it to remain in the red, white & blue colours that almost all allied nations favour. It seems to be a common thread that, unintentionally or not, displays our unity.

Totally agree.
The current flag has a lot of tradition and every year we pay our respects to those who served this country under the flag.
I don't give 2 hoots for what's supposedly in the corner. It's our flag.

I would be opposed to any change. I just can't see why anyone would want too. It is our
heritage. England colonised this country so why not include them in our flag. The star constellation shows our location in the Southern Hemisphere. The Commonwealth Star represents our States and Territories.
Sure this flag was designed in a competition but that competition was held because we finally become our own country instead of a British Colony. Sure if we change from a Monarchy to a Republic then that is another step and perhaps another flag. However I just couldn't help but feel if we did we would just be losing part of our
heritage.

I too think that our flag should not be changed.
Utemad , I agree that the colonisation of Australia by ENgland deserves the recognition.
Many people died fighting for Australia and the Commonwealth and for that reason alone I think it should be retained.
There is no point changing our identity or flag because we aren't part of England anymore.

All of em are terrible, look like some 3rd rate African country's flag. Why cant people leave alone the beautiful flag that we already have and be proud of what it stands for, big deal if its got a union jack on it - it is our herritage you know.
Hands off I say

I don't have a problem with our Flag, but that National Anthem???
It would have to be the most boring and pompous piece of crap that I've ever heard. "Advance Australia - Where". In fact I cannot relate to it, am not moved by it and refuse to sing it.
In my youth, I used to sit and watch "lights Out" in the days when TV didn't run 24 hours a day. God Bless Australia (to the tune of Waltzing Matilda) was, and still is, MY choice of a National Anthem, at least until a better alternative presents itself.

Hardly a relevant National Anthem when the greater majority attend a Church twice in their life, wedding day and burial day. Mind you, I spose in many cases they both occur on the same day.
Just my 20 cents worth.

Scruby's flag just looks like a Japanese flag.
The others look like that airlines logo that had the Kangaroo. Can't think which airline it is/was though.

What a bunch of politically correct whoooses.
I trained, my brothers fought, not for the flag but for each other, themselves and because the other sod was shooting at them.
Sheeesh, when we start taking all this seriously we'll start acting like the blood yanks and start shooting at each other.
Long Live the Republic ya pack of whoooses.
Regards
Russell
