Truckster,
when you look at the map you will notice that the Hume Hwy does a big loop to the north before you head south again. Canberra is about the same latitude as Gundagai (without looking at the map). Canberra to Melb as the crow flies is about 450 km, but the drive is 650 km. It used to drive me mad taking such a roundabout route, plus I hate the Hume because its crawling with Gestapo and I find it hard to sit on 110 on a road and in a car designed for at least 140.

There are a few ways around this. One is to use the Cann Valley Hwy. Its a bit longer (about 30 ks), but not if you live to the south or east of Melbourne.

The other is to turn off to Tumut and approach Canberra through the Brindabellas. This is a great drive and you traverse some beautiful mountain country including the Goodradigbee River, Picadilly Circus, and then down through the fire ravaged Cotter, and entering the burned out suburbs of Weston Creek.

Just a thought.

T-Man I copied the fireworks contacts yestdy, here they be

ACT Fireworks: shop 7 Fyshwick Plaza
53-57 Wollongong St Fyshwick ph 02 6280 7676

The Fireworks King: Unit 15, Fyshwick Plaza,
57-63 Wollongong St Fyshwick ph 02 6228 1666

Maybe its the "other" Canberra attractions(?) that caused the posts demise. If you're taking orders, I wouldnt mind about $20 worth, if you can do.

If you are looking for a few tracks while you are up here Truckster , let us know.

There is plenty out in the Brindies , just 30 mins from town.
