A friend of mine is interested in buying one of these and was wondering if anyone had any experience with either??

Its to go in the back of his Land Cruiser.

Both are 60litre jobs.

The Evacool is $1299
The Engel is $1699

Any idea why the $400 difference???

Anything else he needs to know???

Thanks in advance and merry christmas to all.

TC.

I have the Evakool 60l and to date cannot fault it, or any back up service. The only reason for the price difference is that probably the Engle is to expensive. They both do a great job. I picked mine up for $1100 including a Cover Bag. Probably now is the time to buy as everyone is having specials.

I have an older 60l EvaKool, Its now about 12 years old. Still works a treat. I got that one from my Parents, and they bought a new 47l EvaKool.

Excellent product, just like their iceboxes.

the only issue I have had is a noisy 240v power pack.

I dont personally see the engel as a $400 better fridge.

I have the 47l Supakool and it sounds as though the Micro compressor can be unreliable, has your Evakool got the old Micro compressor or the Danfos?

Mine was actually a Supakool with the old compressor.

It crapped out , and was taken to EvaKool , who installed a Danfoss compressor , and relabled it an EvaKool.

Wasn't a cheap change over from memory $400-$500 or something.

Also have the EvaKool RF60 for about 18 months..

Great unit with low power consumption. Would totally recommend the fridge.

Blue 240v power supply accessory has died but I did run it a lot. Replaced it with a cheap switchmode powersupply from a PC.

Hi TC
I just bought my first portable fridge yesterday & compared many different brands in many different stores all over Adelaide over many months & talking to experts lol on here
I dismissed the Ingel as too over priced was seriously looking @ the evakool 60 for $1199 from a friends camping store
& decided to go one size up then i think i need & got a waeco 80
so i have a whole fridge or fridge /freezer + a dairy compartment & in 6 months i wont wish i had gone one size bigger
Testing it out for the first time today going over to Parsons beach here on the york Paninsular ( which is 200 klm north of Adelaide)
cooking taco's plenty to drink and even taking ice-cream for dessert lol
as i have that option with the waeco 80 if i want
just my point
but if it comes to a evakool or a engel id go the eva cook
but take your time & look one size bigge in the waeco its the same price as the evacool 60

Some people prefer a Falcon.
Others a Rolls Royce.

And as cars go a Rolls Royce is an overweight, under engineered status symbol.

Something the rich use to overstate their importance.

The last British bastion?

I have an Evakool ED90 - Fantastic fridge. The Danfross compressor is a quallity robust unit and the ice box is well known as one of the best available.

Probably draws more amps than the Engel. I had an Engel guy tell me that the largest fridge they have was 60Ltr because their compressor technology couldn't cool the larger fridges - however I think their fridges are the most efficient in terms of power drain. - However check this out for yourself because my memory is scratchy and I notice their website shows an 82ltr ??? - might have a different compressor.

I have 120w Solar Panel and a 110amp/hr deep cycle battery.
