Hi...

Any idea how much it costs for a new compressor for the air conditioner. The A/C blew its fuse while running today and when we stopped the A/C clutch had a strong burnt smell. Also... any good air conditoning specialists in Western Sydney

Thanks heaps...
Michael

Mikeandmary,
If its the cluch only just get a new one.No need to touch anthing else and if you are handy you can fit yourself.Remove pulley and clutch coil behind.
Nothing to hard about it.

Like the earlier post said depends on what's damaged but my a/c from Ford cost $1600. They initially quoted $1200 for the compressor but another $400 was forked out to clean the system up and replace other parts that had also been damaged.

The whole a/c system had it, (must have had a lousy previous owner)- the compressor motor decided to file itself into pieces and then spew them out throughout the a/c system- so it was painful (money wise). It also happened during Christmas time.

Ring around...with the 80 series, i know that Sandon make a kit for them, so one of those compressers will be half the price of a OEM.
Another idea... have a look at the wreckers.....compressers are not usually breaking down, so it would be worth the chance if there was a big dollar difference in price.
I would suggest if the compresser clutch has crapped itself, it would be most probable that the compresser itself has siezed to cause this.
