Hi kids
Just got made redundant today, company had a slow year last and is down sizing. I wasn't the only one, part of my team and other people were also finished up. Was the Customer/
Services manager for an eyewear company. Unfortunate but such as life.
Reason for the post
Anyone wanna head up to the high country for a few days, I have some time up my sleeves hahaha Want to get in some small trips before looking for a new job.

G'day Crazie,
Sorry to read about that mate; but try to make the most of it.
Funny how companies always seem to be downsizing in the "Customer/Service" area of the business; never the "Fat Cat" area!!!!!!
Keep on 4 wheelin' mate

They have done that at my work, but now have seen the errors of their ways, and hired a "TEAM" of 4 new MANAGERS to figure out what went wrong.
Amazing, our customer service team went from 8 people with 4yrs or more in the company, down to a team of 4 with only 2 with 4 yrs experience, and now they are hiring newbys with 0 minutes experience. Save $10.00 for a few weeks, then lose $100k in customers..
Suppose thats why Im not management material, I dont understand their way of thinking..

Its pretty simple to figure middle management thinking bruce, as middle management need to keep things in termoil, or otherwise there is nothing for middle management to to do......
They keep a constant evolution of "if it isnt broken, then lets break it, then get patted on the back for fixing it.....'

Your 100% right there Darren.
Where I am, the dude got a pat on the back for cutting $500k in costs...
Figures out now show 6 mths later these "SAVINGS" have cost the company more than triple that.

G'day Crazie,
Had a similar experience 7 years ago after 23 yrs with the same organisation. Landed on my feet though after nearly 6 months of wondering what would happen next. Know what your going through but I tell you it turned out the best thing that could have happened to me, I'm not looking back.
Mate, I hope there was a good amount of money involved for you and things have a way of working themselves out.
All the best, I'd be there but a bit too far from
Brisbane.
Kind regards

Mate I had the same thing happen to me a few of years ago. They couldn't have had worse timing as I was struggling with house and car payments by myself (newly single at the time) and it was probally one of the hardest times of my life. But like the others have said, dunno how, but it turned out to be the best thing to have happened to me as I've never looked back. Not only that but the mongrels waited until we all came back from the christmas break (spending all our holiday pay) and told us the first day back. Who would want to work for that kind of company anyway...
Now, great job, new house, loving wife 2 kids and an awsome little yota. :-)
Good luck, hope it all works out!

That's too bad Crazie.............. but you don't sound too despondent. These things are quite often a blessing in disquise - just remember that being unemployed is like any other 9 hr/day job - except you dont get paid!
Work at it and you will get 'lucky' Enjoy your freedom and the high country :-)

Was on the excess list for 6 months, didn't want a package but if I had to then like the boatman on the oil ship of the baddies in Costner's WaterWorld watching the incendiary device dropping down on him. "What the / thank God"
Well I survived that round and have been suffering in silence eversince waiting for the next one. Selling up and making do doesn't sound all that bad.
Regards
Russell

Now that ironman
suspension mob was after someone for their clayton operation, i would have put in but ill be buggered if i'm driving across there every day, you on the other hand..... could be worth a look, they wanted a 4x4 enthusiast.
Ive nearly spent my cash
reserves, so no new toys/ projects for a while for me :-((
Let me know when you decide on trips, i may be available :-))))))
i've got a feeling come mid year and jonnys job reforms, you wont be the only one...

Always difficult at the time (was there myself a couple of years ago) but the "real" break (not just holidays) is a good time to re-assess things. The trip to the high country is a great way to give yourself space to think.
Best of luck

Just got back from my lovely holiday to find i am most likely looking at a redundancy too. Very stressful - i don't cope well in a stressful environment. All i want to do is get enough $$$s to get
on the road again. In a small rural town, not much chance of getting another job either, and with the farm would never get anything from Centrelink. Been up all night writing to my union. Good luck Crazie.

I was "dismissed because of war related injury" mate it knocked me for a six but after a while I discovered that work wasn't everything. I do very little paid work now but my days are very full, life can be fun on a pension & I now wonder when I had the time to go to work. Just make sure you got a seperation certificate and take some time off.. don't even look for work until your blood pressure drops.

Sorry to hear about your current position Crazie but as someone said a door will open somewhere.
Your name is quite apt really "CRAZIE" as thats what business is like. It is crazie(sic) that as we supposedly become more customer focussed we reduce staff in the customer services areas of business. Add to that those recorded phone messages if you want this then press no# etc.
I can't wait to see us back when no one cared about customer service bec ause in a lot of cases the customer service was better.
Customer service cannot be made or created, manufactured. It has to come from a genuine desire from within.
Off my hobbyhorse now.
Good luck for the futiure and happy 4wheelin

Sorry to hear of your news. As much as it sounds repetitive, things usually do end up for the best. I've been given a package 3 times so far and each time it has ended up being a god-send. I'm "between jobs" myself at present (this time my choice). I'm in
Adelaide not
Melbourne but might be interested in a quick getaway. How long etc did you have in mind. I've not experienced the
Vic High country except on ski's. Haven't mentioned this to the wife and kids yet so just an exploratory enquiry (they wouldn't be coming but you know how the leave pass thing works). Maybe I can meet you somewhere mid trip or something?
