Did anyone actually hear anything from our "ambassadors" - the Outdoor Recreation Party on this matter today? I've just looked at their website ( http://www.orp.org.au/index2.html ) and the last press release from Don Jenkins was back in February, 2004. - and even earlier (January 2004) if you want to see something from them to try and counter this anti-4WD sentiment.

Time to contact Dr Jenkins......................

This is assuming that they actually still exist after the Turnbull affair.

We actually had a rep from the ORP come to a Sydney Jeep Club meeting a while back... so are they still around at all? Do we have NO representation at Govt. level?

Very good question. My wife works with the wife of one of the ORP people. I'll get her to ask .

Why cant you people get your facts right concerning this all this scare mongering is terrible. The council states that it will double the parking fee for any vehicle over 6 cylinders another words ANY 8 cylinder or more that includes every type of car. Nothing about just 4 wheel drives, and apart from that most of the 4 wheel drives in Sydneys northern suburbs wouldnt know what off road is and deserve to have there drivers/owners penalised for not using a car for what it was intended, that is what most of the ones who pick on 4 wheel drives are getting at stop using them to ferry kids around etc.

So do you think that ppl that buy wrx's or Lancer Evo's should all look for dirt roads and drive like rally drivers? What is the intended purpose of these cars? What is the intended purpose of a Subaru Forester? What is the intended purpose of a Ford Territory? I think suggesting that people who purcahse 4wd's MUST use them to go 4wd'ing is hypocritical and frankly rude. Its nobodies business how often an individual uses his/her 4wd to go bush if at all. Its called freedom of choice. If I choose for my wife to drive my children to school in a 4wd why should I me financially penalised? Is that you Harold trying to infiltrate with us regular folk? Cmon fess up mate....

Hi Masti,

I respectfully disagree with you.

Old-Plodder kindly provided these links in another post:
Council Recommendation

Green Vehicle Guide

You'll see that the council papers specifically state 4WD vehicles as high.

I did some digging on the links you kindly provided. An interesting thing was that in NSL councils own proposal, they have listed the 6 cylinder Commodore's as MEDIUM and the Jeep Grand Cherokee as HIGH. I checked the Green Vehicle Guide and the Jeep (Diesel) has a BETTER rating than the Commodore for greenhouse rating AND fuel consumption.

You can see that even when they wrote the law, they had a PERCEPTION that 4wd's are the problem. Also, the front page of the Sydney Tele said "It's war on 4wd's".

I would encourage those that have an interest to at least be knowledgable about the arguments so that you can educate the rest of them. Even my wife tonight said "did you hear what NSC did?" I said yes and she then shocked me with "I think it's a good idea, those 4wd's take up too much space." We then had a 'discussion' about the issues and I set her straight.

As I said on another post, don't run around shouting "the sky is falling", but don't just pretend it doesn't matter and hope it goes away. How many of you said they would never ban smoking from pubs and clubs?

Be informed, so you can provide the answers.

Cheers,

Jason.

Maybe in WA the media did doctor the report - it said specifically 4WDs - they didn't mention the bit about about 8 cyl 2wds, but the had a lady who looked a lot like the Mayor saying she wanted to charge them double because they're fuel guzzlers. When questioned about smaller 4wds, the answer was maybe less for 4 cyl 4wds, but double for 6 cyl 4wds.

Hi Masti,

You are coming in a bit late here - we have our facts right. The problem is that the facts are being distorted by the media and Harold Scrubby and that is what we have to counter. Apparently even the mayor could not believe how wrong these people have got it.

Tim.

Masti - we discovered what you state above - at 10:00am yesterday. The N.S. Mayor couldn't believe the distortion.
