Well &^%& me with a big stick. Have you seen this:
NRMA Insurance Releases World First Reversing Visibility Index
Following the deaths of 17 children in three and a half years in NSW from reversing cars, NRMA Insurance has produced the world's first Reversing Visibility Index that measures how
well a driver can see out of the back of a car. A key finding of the study is that the reversing visibility of 4WDs are no worse than many other cars on Australia's roads.
"The clear lesson from this study is that drivers need to be very aware of what is around them. New technology and design features can assist, however, there also needs to be close supervision of children near reversing vehicles," said Mr Pearce.
OH MY GOD, SOMEONE HAS COMMON SENSE !!!!
Quick where's the media. Where's Harold Grubby?

Next someone will come up with an idea that careless or numbskull drivers will still be brain dead whether they drive a 4WD or a 2WD vehicles. But lets not hold our breath waiting for that pearl of wisdom.

Perhaps now they may come up with a "Parental Responsibility Index". Whilst the loss of any life it a tragedy, having seen a few of these on tv I have asked .. "where were the parents". I know we dorve out kids nuts when they were small.

Find it interesting that holden monaro coupe and crewman ute don't even get 1 star out of 6 (6 being good), while criusers etc get 3 out of 6 stars for visibility.

The "all-conquering" 4WD of the year... the Toyota Prado (5 Door Wagon) doesn't rate a star and is the worst of the lot.
Interesting index....

Yeah - I have one of those and it is a bugger to see out the back.
I actually get out and
check if not sure what is behind but how many of us do that regularly?
The big wing mirrors are great but will also look at a rear camera at some point - may even be useful when doing tight tracks.
Cheers
Muddy

havent i just heard , very recently, something about 4wd being involved in more reversal collision than other standard vehicles?
Seems that the visiblty index may be out if the above is true...or is the index correct as it only relates to personal injury and not vehicle accidents?

We have a two year old that loves to be outside with Daddy and we have always taken her in the car with us even if it's just to move up and down the driveway, she thinks it a treat to sit in the front
seat with the belt on and we alway know where she is!!!

Yep, when ours were smaller we did the same. Now, I don't move the car unless I can SEE both of them in front of me. That's whether I'm in the Rodeo or the Commodore.

Worse thing for us is the 4yr old next door, he purposely stands behind the car when he sees us getting in and when ask him to move he stands on the edge of the grass, toes just touching our driveway. "This is my grass I can stand here", so we have to go and get his parents to move him, make leaving the house a long process!!!
There are times I think the world would thank me just to keep reversing, can't believe I just said that, but you try living next to that kid!!!
Sandy
(Before anyone jump on the fact I should be able to reverse past him, this kid scares me, I could reverse straight past him, but if he moved at the last moment I'd have to live with it!!!)

Was watching a show on T.V on the weekend and they had a driver course thing going. They put the female presenter in a 100 series and placed a orage traffic cone behind the car and then moved it back until she could see it all. They then put her into a commodore and did the same thing and the commodore's traffic cane was about 3 time further back than the cruisers.
I found it really interesting, but it made sense after I thought about it.
