Oops!! not Luera - worse, it's Coles Kattomba who've banned 4WD's, effective from April. The SMH has suggested that Councils should consider doing the same.

Here's the article from the website
The 4WD debate that the Spike column across the page had so much fun with earlier this month may be drawing first blood. Paul Duncan, of Leura, reports: "Here in the mountains, we believe actions speak louder than words. The local Coles (Katoomba) has banned 4WDs from the car park, beginning in April, because of all the problems they cause. Now, if only the council and others would follow suit we could start to reclaim the streets from these ..." Paul then goes on to make all sorts of unpleasant remarks about inconsiderate 4WD owners

11:13. 22nd March 2005.

Amberley from Kmart Customer Service states at 11:13 today 22nd March that the height was always 1.8 mtrs and that some time ago locals had raised the height to 1.85mtrs. Kmart has, she said "lowered the height back to the original height of 1.8 mtrs due to some vehicles and damage"

She also said she would send me an Email of what she had told me verbally.

I await Email and will post it here.

HUH?
They LOWERED the height from 1.85 mtrs to 1.8mtrs due to damage?
They should have raised it even further then.
Somethings amiss.
Be interesting to see the written reply.

3.0turbo

You can't just simply raise an entire carpark.

Or for that matter anything permanant.

And why should they? They did already have the height marked at 1.8mtrs. That's what they are saying.

They are saying that some? local (idiot) just came along and raised it himself.

If idiots do this, what can I say?

It's not even Coles. It's K-Mart.

They are lowering the entrance barrier height because they believe that tall vehicles OF ANY KIND are are too close to low-hanging pipes and fire extinguisher nozzles.

The SMH are wrong in what they print - again. Send an email to the editor at: column8@smh.com.au and tell him/her that their anti-4WD undertones are being noticed, and criticised by that community.

Direct from the mouth of an increasingly exasperated Coles store manager in Katoomba.

Poor bugger has ley fly against the Column-8 editor at the SMH already. Expect a retraction tomorrow...or not :(

Not only should everyone cease patronage of the Supermarket, but give the Scandal Magazine (Herald) the big flick as well.

shopping centres car parks would come come under the private parking area Act??

They normally dont own the property...its usually leased...so see if they have the power to do so...

its probably to stop you getting the 4cent discount on petrol.....

No such ACT in NSW.

This has been a problem with the car park for a few years. IT"S not a ban on 4WD. One entrance is OK for height but another has a low slung pipe.
It has cost me a roof rack when one of the offspring took the wrong turn and hit the pipe.
We have also lost the lights of one of the local RFS Hilux.
K-Mart when I spoke to tham this afternoon are getting grief from Diii Heads that can't read the hight restriction signs (Lke my Son) and then want to sue K.Mart, so I can see their side of the story
