Hi fellow travellers.Am planning a trip up north starting mid July 05.Can anyone tell me if the road from
Cloncurry to
Normanton and
Winton to
Boulia is sealed. is it better to leave my 16 ft poptop at
Boulia and drive my pathfinder to
Birdsville and stay at the pub. Thanks, Bazza

All bitumen mate. Been like that for years.
Winton to
Boulia may still be strip bitumen though.

Barrie,
even if you had to drive cross country I think it would be safer to take the van with you.
Boulia is a beaut town, but I reckon your top would be popped when you came back for it.

Bazza,
Both roads to
Normanton, and
Boulia are bitumen. However most of road is narrow "Beef Road" type black top, about 4M wide.. They have put a few overtaking lanes in the
Winton-
Boulia section, though at times you'd need heaps of grunt to make use of them!!
Fair bit of bitumen from
Boulia to B'ville now, I'd take your van. The gravel is often nearly as good as black stuff, but if it isn't, then drive a bit slower. Lots to see, enjoy.
Hooroo...
