Hi all,
Have any 3.0 ltr td (ZD30) Patrol owners had the tappets (or valve clearance) done on their vehicles.
Mine's just clicked over 90,000 klms and I rang a few Nissan dealers (
Sydney area) to get a price to adjust them and they said they've never done them! One in western
Sydney said they don't need adjusting. What are peoples thoughts on this?

Rob,
Valve clearences are as follows Engine cold 0.35mm +/- 0.05mm. You then need to calculate the correct shim by set method T=t1+(c1+c2). There are 15 shims available from 2.35 to 3.05mm.
If you need shim calculation let me know.

Thanks sevo,
I have the specs in my repair manual, but don't want to do it myself as it also says that if you have difficulty you need to remove the camshaft.
I just find it odd that several Nissan dealers say they've never done it and one said it doesn't need to be done.

My understanding is that no adjustment is required unless they become noisy.
This is the advice from the gregorys manual for this model.
Probably why no Nissan dealer has done this work.

Thanks fourstall,
Have read the same thing in my manual. Listening to the engine, it's hard to say whether its tappets, or just injector pump noise or injectors. Anyway just wanted to get it checked. I rang 2 more Nissan dealers yesterday and both said they don't need to be adjusted, and they too, have never done it. It' only a bit noisy at idle, once the revs pick up it's fine.
Cheers,
Rob
