Does anyone know whether the trans Oz r/way trk is again open? I heard rumblings that there were talks between SA Gov and R/way owners to re open late 04.

Open again?

I wasnt aware it had closed.
I drove 300km of it east of Kalgoorlie at chrissy, and had no probs. The heavy rain that came through recently may have changed that temporarily though.

I just drove a chunk of it with a few mates till we got bored. turned off and followed some dodgy GPS directions till we got to a road to head back to Kal. I was chasing action that was a little more extreme than the access road.

Note: Have heard on the radio this morning thatit is indeed closed- it was closed today due to the heavy rains it has revieved in the WA goldfields area.

Road closure after rain are the norm but the open up again very quickly. Sound like you didnt go past rawlinna wher it is closed. I will be doing the yowie rocks track from north of daveyhurst to southern cross son if that would be more to your liking - very good remote bushland

Sounds like a good trip. Send us some details if ya want : bdelbianco at croesus dot com dot au.
Not too fond of the davyhurst and surrounds area though- theres been a number of times i've been treking bush by gps, then i come across actve open pit workings and find I cant get out of the mining lease. Ive been escorted off sites a few times and had the GDSU call me and my family over it.

the are in question is out of all mining areas and is geologically dead hence the almost absence of tracks - i travelled a fairbit of the area mapping with the geol survey - never saw another person

It is definitely closed - open the eastern end to allow access to Goog's Track
