Hi Formites,
I have just got a Lightforce 170 Hand held Spot light for my Birthday of the olds and was wondering if yous could help me with a question I have?
The Light came with Alligator Clips to attach it directly to my Dual battery but I was wondering if there was a better solution to this as I have a Merit Plug in the cargo area for the Engle and also a standard 10amp Accessory Socket I have found that the Accessory Socket gets hot after prolonged use. So would I be better to use a Merit Plug or retro fit a couple of Anderson Plugs? One in the front and one in the cargo area? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had two SL 170 spots before I went to the larger SL 240 for shooting. I think you will find that originally R. L. Dennis designed them for the shooting fraternity but they are now used for other purposes. I have found that they work far better when connected to the battery with the heavy duty lead supplied than by putting them through the vehicle system. You would probably have been better off with just one of those cheap spotties, as it is such a waste of a good light for general handi- work. A word of warning, do not leave the light on the seat face down as I found out when I accidently leaned on the switch while talking to a Cockie on the passenger side in daylight. Fifteen minutes later I noticed smoke pouring out of the vehicle, a hole in the seat & one melted Lexon lense.

Hi Matt,
Echo as above, I have 240 Blitz for hunting, and they are a great light, but directly to the batt is the best way, the cig socket will get quite hot quite quickly, and LF actually used to offer a cig plug version. If you need to use it with wiring inside the car, I would look at fitting good gauge wiring and Anderson plugs, then you will have no probs.

Cheers,
Wayne

Matt, how many amps does it draw? I was using a Hella 16amp Plug for my modified Cooler, it metled the 8 amp equivlet. The 16amp one worked fine except it kept getting knocked out in the cargo barrier so I have changed to a two pin clipsal ULV style plug.

I reckon the hella ones would be the way to go, that way you could have one in the front and the back if required, just run GOOD cable to both. Easily cliped in and out when required and it will still fit into a normal cigi plug if you take it in someone else's car.

I've got a Primus rechargable hand held, it's VERY bright and only runs for about 10 minutes off a full charge. I find that I more often then not end up using the cheapo $20 latterns from supercheap. The old spottie doesn't come out very often.
