Hi all,
I have just finshed installing Members FileSwap. It will be in the next newsletter (Thursday I think) however I thought I would give you a heads up. FileSwap is designed to allow members to exchange utilities files and helpful documents such as was in a thread earlier today. It is NOT for marketing info, press releases or any non related stuff however if you have a utility or program that you think would be of interest or help to other members then please upload it. There is already an excellent 51 page
camp oven usage and reciepe book (Thanks Mad Dog you found the new system) and a useful Camping checklist excel spreadsheet from Member - Cruisin (QLD) (loaded by me from thread 14217).
This system does not replace PlotSwap and PointPlace - please continue to load plotfiles and waypoint files in that system (for your credits). It is also not a replacement for the Trips & Gatherings system please load trips and reports via that system. We will monitor the files loaded and create subfolders as required.
So to get there either Members Menu - Member FileSwap or FileSwap Link.
Enjoy

David, I have had a quick cursory glance at this, and you have done
well.
Would it be at all possible to perhaps give the relevant files their file type suffixes, ie:.... pdf txt doc and maybe........... the platform?
I run macs, and not all things will work for me.......... :(
Actually, better still.......... make the donor do this, and you can have a rest!
You have done good.........

G'day Lonewolf,
Not familar with Mac's however, try this.
Open Windows Explorer (also called File Manager), select the
tools menu, then folder options, then click on the view tag. You will find a box marked "hide file extensions for known file types". If you click on the box so it is no longer ticked, the file extensions will display. Just reverse this if you want to hide them again.
That's what i did for
mine

Wolfie,
The icons next to the name should goive you the clue to what the extension is, mind you I used the Microsoft windows icons which may be different to the Mac. However that should give you to clue to the file extensions. I do store the extensions on the system however I convert them to the icon which I thought looked better.
The platform
well that is a little harder and some work/exel may work on both and other won't it is very difficult to determine a working platform unless someone loads it on that platform and then advise the system that i worked somehow. This could be an option in the future.
