Planning on a 'short cut' to the Salvador Rosa section of
Carnarvon National Park and wondered if anyone had followed this route...
North of Mitchel to Forest Vale then NE through the valley to Bogarella, Cunno, Caldervale, then turn right onto the road heading out from
Tambo then right at Cungelella and into Yarra
Gorge and the
campsite at Salvador Rosa.
I picked this path out on OziExplorer, set the waypoints but unfortunatley don't have the GPS to back up this path.

Swoosh, Recently took the drive from Cungelella (SE of
Tambo) along the adventure way to Salvatore Rosa. Actually did the reverse trip to
Tambo. This section of the trip is actually a nice drive and
well worth doing. The road is currently quite flat with minimal corrugations. Watch out for dust holes and wildlife. You drive over one hilly bit. Take it slow and take in the scenery.
If you have never been to SR before take the last 1-2 km very slow. NPWS have constructed some
well disguised speed bumps(may not be the intended purpose). If you want to
test the 4 x 4
suspension than stay on about 50kph and watch kids hit the ceiling.
The other roads (have not done for some time) are generally loose rocky gravel and very dusty. Signage is also poor. Pull
well left when going over crests.

Spade
Thank you for the track information. We're looking forward to travelling in this remote area.
I should correct the NE in my post the NW - just a slight error.
We will call into the Police station at
Mitchell and see if we can get some insite into the 'shortcut' north of
Mitchell.
