G'day David and Michelle,

I'd like to suggest an improvement to the forum, perhaps one that is only available to members as another reason for people to join.

There are so many posts to this forum now, that it is hard to keep track of questions that you are interested in. For example, there was a question just asked about an eTrex Legend. I have one too and I want to follow that thread, but with so many posts, it's difficult to find in a few days. My suggestion is to allow members to add a thread to their "Hot Topics" or "Watched Threads" or something like that and then later when I log back in, I can look at my Hot Topics to see if there are any new posts.

Is this something you think would be worthwhile adding?

Also, any other members support this suggestion or otherwise? It may be that I'm the only one that wants it, in which case I'd obviously say don't bother :-)

Cheers,

Jason.

Smocky,

You can always do a search on eTrex Legend in both Active and Archived posts for your required topic. Isn't this sufficient?

Well, seeing as you asked Sandman, no I don't think that's the same.

Couple of reasons. 1. It takes a while and you get a whole bunch of responses that AREN'T the ones you were looking for.

Secondly, you have to remember to search!!! When I come back to the computer after a few days, it would be great to look at the threads that interested me last time and see how they wound up.

Cheers,

Jason.

Top Idea Smocky!

Bit like the "Items I am following" list in eBay. Makes it easy to go back after a week or a month to those topics that interest you and see how they ended up.

Would be another great benefit for members to encourage people to join up and support the site.

Got my vote!

You can already do that to a great extent by selecting the option at the top under "Switch Sort Options" to "Response time" which sorts all posts that have been recently added to. Your access changes to list them in that order for all the active posts.

Spot on John,

I am set up that way and all I ever see are fresh posts.

If the forum was setup to response time as a standard setting, as most others are, there would be no need to go looking.

Jimbo, I knew that some would work that way and that you are a pretty "aware" sort of fellow. I change back and forth as I sometimes want to see the sequence of the posts to look for a new or interesting one. I think Trucster drew my attention to the ordering mechanism a few weeks back. Puts me into the less aware group until then, I guess. LOL

Jimbo I guess your definition of auditors means that they don't go looking for trouble, they just finsh off the trouble. I know some auditors are nice people, even friends. I may quote you to them though. hehheh

Hi,

I already use the forum sorted by Response Time. However, I checked the forum this morning, came back now and there are already 25 new threads. I sometimes go away for a couple of days (like many others) and after a few days it can be time consuming to find a particular thread. Also, you can tend to forget that someone asked a question you were interested in.

Tagging a thread as a "Watch thie thread" sort of option would easily allow me to check it a week later and see how it ended up.

Hi Jason,

I save the posts that I want to follow up in my favorites folder (if using internet explorer as your web browser). Make an ExplorOz folder and save everything in there.

I like the idea Smocky, but I think david and Michelle appreciate any suggestions sent via the 'feedback" section. Then if they like it, and it's do-able then they are more than happy for you to announce your idea on the forum.

Fair enough. I thought about sending a Mem Msg, but this way I thought other members might like to comment and either improve on the suggestion or suggest an alternative. Next time I'll shoot off a feedback response first.

Cheers,

Jason.

I think it is a great idea Smocky; would be much quicker than searching or recording thread numbers. I often try and remember a post number so i can keep going back to follow the responses. I'm sure David and Michelle will consider this if easy to set up. Motherhen

G'day Jason...

I don't think the idea of watching a particular thread can be done.
It would be pretty hard to do.
No way could it be done.
Other sites have tried
Can't be done.
Won't work.
Nada.
Nil.

Let me know when you want some training about how to use the marvellous new "Thread Watch" feature David installed last night :-)

Cheers,

Smocky.

Thank David, he did a great job.

Works well too.

I had actually forgotten which thread it was that sparked my interest and only just stumbled across it. Have now added it to my watched threads :-).

I love this place.

Nope, that's the other "send an e-mail to the guy when he gets a reply" feature. Don't need to watch this one.

But the one about the eTrex Legend .........
