We are hoping to travel the Gunbarrel Hwy in July from east to west. To do the abandodned section a permit will only be issued if you have a minimum of two and a maximum of five vehicles. We are a family of five and were wondering if anyone is travelling between Warakuna and Jackie Jackie
Junction or
Warburton sometime around 2nd July. If so, is there any chance that we could travel with you on this section?
PS For anyone who has travelled on the abandoned section, how long does it take?
Cheers, Brendan & Jill

Full days travel from Giles to Jackie Jackie with plenty of stops. Lens blazed tree is a
good camp in amounst the Desert Oaks. Track picks up conciderably from
Mippultjarra Junction to JJ then deteriorates to some of the worst corrogations in Oz as you head west. Good luck with finding a travelling companion. The trip is
well worth the effort.
Cheers Craig.............

G'day Crackles
Would you have a gps point or accurate location for the
camp site you mention. We had planned a point about 15km east of Jackie
Junction but if you suggest a good spot I'd be more than interested. Any other points of interest we should have marked on the map???
We'll be coming from
Warburton to JJ then across to Giles.
Thanks
Signman

The
camp is marked on the Hema Great Desert tracks map (highly recomended) with a GPS coordinate of 24, 53' 30" south / 127, 12' 09" East. We went for a short walk at the Rawlinson Ranges & found some nice wild flowers then took a side track for a look at
Lake Christopher. Really the permit doesn't allow you to deviate off the main track any more than that. No other stunning features to speak of, just a nice remote drive....
Cheers Craig.
