...one last weekender prior to the winter gate closures.

Dates: Sat 28th & Sun 29th May 2005
Standard: Good mix of Easy / Medium - some low range - trailers not advised. Some sections hard if wet.

Start: Saturday 28th May 9.00am - Mansfield BP for fuel and a meet and greet
Finish: Sunday 29th May mid afternoon - Craig's Hut

Saturday: Mansfield to Sheepyard Flat via Howqua Track, then Brock's Road past Tunnel Bend onto Upper Jamieson Hut, Low Saddle Road / Mt. Sunday Road through Wren's Flat onto Mitchell's Flat for lunch. Then on past the old shale mine and Tobacco Flat to Fry's Hut / Flat to set up camp for the night and to have a few yarns and beers around the campfire / camp ovens.

Sunday: Head off around 9.30am (or whenever we are ready) back along Howqua Track and along the Mt. Buller Road to Mirimbah, then onto Howqua Gap Hut. Then onto the summit of Mt. Stirling and onto Craig's Hut for lunch and home.

Trip will basically be Trek 1 from Boiling Billy's 4wd Tracks of the High Country on the Saturday and then Trek 3 in reverse to Craig's Hut on the Sunday.

All welcome - would be great to see some new faces :)

I think I'm still in, I may have to meet you guys on Sat arvo as I may have a work commitment in the morning now.
Was on the phone to Eric yesterday he may be the same also.

Closures have started, I heard Davies Plains track is now closed ???? will have to check the parks site, not affecting this trip though.

Same every year Bruce. The 2005 list will be there till this time next year. For email notification when any web pages change I suggest using http://www.watchthatpage.com

One email a day will notify you when your specified pages change.

I've used them for a number of years and throughly recommend the free service, no hassle, no junk mail and no bleep

I am already going up that way that weekend and have unfortunately already planned a similar trip with work colleagues. Difference is, we are turning off at Bluff link road and heading to the Bluff. Then onto Bindaree road, Monument track and past Craig’s hut. Then we head across to Speculation road and up to Lake Cobbler – got to give the Staircase a go as no one of our group of 3 cars has done it before.

We’re also leaving Mansfield Sat morning and will probable be at Sheep Yard for morning tea. If you see a green 100 series, white GU and possibly a white 60 series as well give us a hoy and say G’Day. Would love to see some of the Exploroz faces.

Chris, it would be good if you guys can catch up, look out for a sticker or so and a wheel cover for us too. Truckster followed along behind us last year to see if he needed to pick up bits.

A long range forecaster is now saying rain for the period leading up to it so here is hoping.

Hi,

Just noted that you intend to drive Low Saddle Rd. I was up there a few months ago, and more than half the length of the track is seriously overgrown - you couldn't get a pushbike along it without getting hit by bush from both sides.
It was navigable though. 3 very scratched 4by's by the end.

Just to be aware of - it may even be fixed by now.

Cheers

David
