Anyone able to give me a pointer to a Sat Phone hire mob that will charge less than $500 a month would be greatly appreciated.

I can get all our other emergency stuff (like a 57l engel for $210 a month) and buy an EPIRB for $198 outright but the sat phone rates seem really steep!

I have heard that if I buy a sat phone, I may be able to get a rebate from the WA Govt of up to $1,400! Anyone heard of this or knows the detail?

And, anyone wishing to rent their sat phone out privately could also be a solution for us.

Req'd mid Aug to mid Sept.

John

Sounds great - can't get your email from your profile so mine's curnowhome@iinet.net.au

We hope only to have incoming calls but you never know in the great outdoors!

Of course I'll do the freight Vic/WA/Vic!

Thanks - keep in touch!

Hi John,

I wonder if this offer to hire might extend to me also. Will be traveling for three weeks from June 27.

Try also National Parks and Wildlife - they have them available in some areas.

Pocket Phone - 9444 4344 - $125 week plus ~$3 a minute for calls - Ok so its not less that $500 a week but sure you could barter them down to $499.
Cheers

Andy,

We hired a Satphone from Nixon Communications, in Gladstone Qld, in Feb this year, for $450month.

Have recently bought our own for $535, including the Gov. subsidy. Only difference is we are paying $50/month fees, but this includes some free calls.

If you think you may need a Satphone, it might be worthwhile apply for the subsidy. Only need to state where you are going, ie out of CDMA range.

Go to the ACA site for more info.

Check with WACB Shop in Newcastle St Perth (Lord St end), I think you will find him pretty reasonable
