Nice one Voxson, certainly proves correct the theory of travelling in the existing ruts (when you can see them!). What was your plan B if you got stuck?

Cheers

I'd be smiling too if I'd made it through that lot, but especially with a very smooth sounding co pilot who likes hard bottoms :-) Will she live that one down!!

What area is it? - the road I mean.

We were heading to Mt Dare to do a Simpson crossing around July 10 but got shut out by closed roads and the rain. Bout the same time as your escapade I'd guess.

I showed my co pilot and she was real pleased we didn't venture out there.

I was on the Old Nhill Rd (if it was a road I will eat my hat.....the other sarcastic naming we saw was the McDonald Highway!) in the Little Desert Nat Pk. It was just south of Crater Track.

I did try the Chicken Tracks and got all out of sorts when we had no choice to drop into the real mud. The responses have confirmed my suspicions that the better course of action is to follow the main track despite it being covered with water (whilst remembering that every situation needs to be assessed on its merits)

Thanks everyone for your responses by the way

Nice rig photo by the way. Did the flash not work or is it some kind of black armband kind of statement?

That McDonald highway has probably surprised a few. I don't know how they came up with a name like that but still no real ruts to contend with but the clay sections would get a bit slipperty in the wet I expect. Have you been along Pheenys track in Murray Sunset, now that's more of a highway.

When you said track I was thinking along the lines of a track in the bush with big holes and ruts...still what's in a name eh, expect the unexpected.

Glad you like the pic, it turned out real well. Hard to beat a dark night in the bush.

Haven't tried Pheenys although Murray Sunset may be on the agenda in the next few weeks.

The "road" I was on was so overgrown it was constant scratching simultaneously on both sides of the vehicle.....nowhere to turn around etc.

The mud / water section did open out slightly but only about 2 car widths wide. Water 1 car width wide for a couple of hundred mtres (could drive by) and then mud/water 2 car widths wide for another 50ish (had to commit).

Anyway, we have talked about that about enough I reckon, I'm starting to feel like a woose (spelling?) for even bringing it up!

Don't bother!

It is just a video that shows a Prado ploughing through a water covered track.

Not very responsible if you didn't really have to be there. The track will cost thousands of dollars to grade when it dries out. If it is near Mt Dare it probably will not be regraded for years. If it was officially closed there are heavy fines for using it.
