Hi all,
We're going to the
Grampians NP in Victoria at the end of September this year.(NSW school holidays, & comming from
Sydney) and would like some suggestions for a
good camp site to accomodate camper trailer, 2 adults, 2 kids. I have the
camping guide to Victoria and it gives all the syumbols for the various areas but would like personal experiences from people who have camped there. I know I probably won't find anywhere secluded because of the school holidays. Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

Rob,
Depends on the style campling, but if you are interested in a semi rural caravan
park with a bit of character and powered
camp sites suitable for a camper trailer, then I would suggest that you stay outside of
Halls Gap at a place called
Pomonal.
Three Easters ago we stayed at the Lake Fyans caravan /
camping grounds. A reference to them at the following URL is.

It was significantly quieter than the caravan /
camping spots in
Halls Gap and is the place I recommend in that area.
Cheers,
Mal

during holiday times you will fall over everyone else in the town and caravan parks etc. BUT the beauty is that hardly anyone camps out in the centre of the
park, Last
easter i stopped there and had a play on the sand tracks around the centre and camped in near the outlet weir, (its the only
water around in there at the moment) And saw only a couple of vehicles in a day and a half. SO grab a map and check out the areas around the outlet weir, there are heaps of huge cleared sites,
bush camping only, flat sandy ground and massive amounts of grouse firewood within meters. But keep the fire small and contained as the rangers are red hot on them during the holiday seasons.
Let me know if you need any further info, cheers Brad

Hi,
We went to the
Grampians earlier this year and stayed at Lake Fyans. It is a fair way out of town. If you have children and want to entertain them the Parkgate caravan
park looked great even though we did not stay there or the actuall
camping ground in
Halls Gap. The kangaroos all gather there and its at the base of the mountains, its just breathtaking scenery. The shops are over the road from
Halls Gap camping and walking
trails are close by also. Parkgate caravan
park is only a 5 minute walk into shops also. You will just love it. Our children 4 and 6 managed several of the walks to the waterfalls and short hiking tracks to the lookouts. It is one of the most beautiful
places that I would
camp at.
