We were breaking camp on Sunday morning and had pulled some of the tent pegs out when I noticed some damp spots in side the tent. Decided to let them dry out and went back to sit by the fire. Shortly afterwards we had a severe windgust and the Oztent Ranger(30 second tent) blew over and twisted as it was still anchored by some pegs. The result was that the alloy locking arms on the side of the tent had snapped off and one had broken in pieces.

After looking at the prices on Oztent website I figured it would cost me about $50 plus freight to get the parts delivered.

I went down to the local hardware store and bought 2 lengths of 5mm flat steel for $9. Measured and drilled the holes, rounded the ends, undercoated and painted the bars and fitted it all together again. AHA!!.......It works. Feeling quite pleased with meself lol

sounds like a lot of work for a $40 savings...

Think I would have just paid the fifty bucks and be done for it...

besides, what are locking things anyway?

Usually I dont have the choice to dry tent out, as the barge is usually leaving that im booked on and its pouring rain as we pack the tent up..

its always ok, just needs to be aired out for a bit the next time you put it up...and lately that next time is the next time I go camping....

GEG

Go to www.oztent.com.au and see the tents for yourself

"sounds like a lot of work for a $40 savings"...

$40 saved is fuel in the tank to go somewhere.

Ahhh the luxury of retirement hey Willem. Time to stop and think about how to fix instead of just go and buy it. Well done, I will keep it in my mental storage system if ever I have the same problem.
Cheers Peter and Lez

$40 saving's a carton of bleep and a pack of smokes! Good on ya mate, at least there are still some people out there who still use their nogan! Good work, even if you put the $$$ aside it's a good feeling when you fix somthing yourself .

Hi Willem - I had a similar thing happen to me when camped in the wonderfully windy wide-open space near Goulburn in NSW. Thankfully, I had to go to Sydney a couple of days later and dropped the tent into the OZTENT people at Wetherill Park. I know I've rabbited on a bit about their great customer service before but I told the young fellow on the counter that I only had the day in Sydney and straight away they took my tent, erected it on their work frame removed my frame intoto and replaced it with a whole brand new frame. I was on my way again in about 40 minutes ....and BTW no charge involved at all. That experience has resulted in me holding off buying camping and fishing gear until the next time I'm able to get up to Syney. Every time I visit the sh*tty city I call in and replenish or update my gear.
Cheers
Pete

G'day GEG

You seem to have some problem with Oztents for some reason.

I'm sure Willem will get back to you with his own version of why he likes his Oztent but I'll give you mine as a Oztent owner.

They are, as advertised but not in such laymans terms, "an absolute piece of pish to use". They come in a bag that they actually fit back into, plus groundsheet and assorted bits. It sits nicely on my roofrack and when I want to use it, it does actually takes about 3 minutes to set the tent, roll out my bedding, peg the awning and be finnished pish farting around with camp. As you might have gathered I'm not realy into tenting perse' and mine was brought for its speed and versatility for those times that tenting is the last viable option for me to be where I want to go.
It is one of the few products I have purchased over the past few years that actually lives up to its advertising without doubt. Is it worth the outlay, for me yes because it is a quality product that actually does what it is suppose to do and lets me do what I have gone to some remote place to do, not fiddle fart around putting up a bloody tent.

Don't know what sort of tent you use but you are obviously happy with it and thats a good thing because it's your tent and you have to live with it.
Lucky thing, individual choice.
Same thing with Willem wanting to spend $10 rather than $50 + fixing his tent. His choice and from my point of view a sensible one and as an Oztent owner one I will file away for future reference cause like Willem I would rather have $40 in my pocket to go somewhere rather than spend it when there was no need to.

And if you don't get it, you don't get it. Mr Oztent never said you had to get it!

Happy Travelling
Cheers
Wal

I agree with all that Kimberley Kruiser has said.

Basically the Oztent has a frame set-up and after you have removed it from it's bag it takes less than 30 seconds to set up. Within the frame set-up are two locking arms which are shifted into position on a slide to keep the tent upright and firm. Then all you need to do is to put a few tent pegs in the ground and your sleeping quarters are ready. The tent has an awning which is freestanding or it can be attached to the roofrack of your vehicle. We fit two camp beds in the tent and still have space to'swing a cat' lol It is the only tent I have come across that always fits back into its bag.

Hahahaha................No I don't work any longer

Oztent is an Australian disgned tent and I have only come across it recently after doing a bit of research on the internet looking for alternatives now that the missus has decided to come camping again( I had a single bed set up in my old truck).

Just go to their site and send them an email asking where the closest supplier to you is situated.

Sorry no photos. The one thing I like about the tent that it is 1.9metres at the door so I only have to bend my neck slightly to get in the tent in an upright position. We are planning on buying an annexe and a screen room for our 3 month jaunt over to the west next year.
