Has anyone ever noticed how many wacky ideas and products come out of Queensland?

It is almost a pre-requisite to check before looking at a new product what state the product is based in.

Do they have favourable tax rates or something for inventors / marketers?

I'm not meaning to have a shot at Queenslanders, or Queensland companies, but there just seem to be dis-proportionate numbers, compared to other states.

Or is it just cynical old me?

Cheers,

Chump

"there just seem to be dis-proportionate numbers, compared to other states."
I'd be surprised if that is the case. Possibly they get more press by journos who haven't seen the sunshine for a while :)

Some excellent stuff actually comes out of Qld (scramjet engine, the metal "shield" for shooting down misslies etc). The last stats I saw showed 90% of Qld companies were relatively small, which indicates that a lot of people may be working for themselves. I guess that is a big incentive to develop a better mousetrap.

Of course there's a lot of rubbish developed also. But we can put that down to those southerners who come here to make a quick buck :)))))))))

I wouldn't be too cynical. They did invent the water powered car (Joh), and Milan Brych (cure for cancer) came from QLD.

It's in the genes. The more inventive convicts who were considered a high escape risk were sent to QLD, can't run as fast in the hot weather but it wont slow a bullet down much :)

Brian,

I lived in Townsville for 8 years and they considered anyone south of Mackay to be a Mexican.

Where's your Sombrero :)

You are right, the people and their inventions are wacky. It is the heat and constant swatting of sandflies that does it. Only a certain number of times you can whack yourself on the head without getting dizzy.

Not being cynical at all, but have you ever noticed:

- how many NSW people are either into organised crime or are related to someone who is?
- how many Victorians wear sandals and sox on the beach?
- how many SA men would prefer to go to a gay bar than go four wheel driving?
- how many Tas people have a complex about being left off the map?
- how many ACT men wear women's undies (to go with the fishnet pantyhose, or did that only apply to Mr Downer)?
- how many WA people can't find their way out of Perth?
- how many Nthn Territory women wear no undies, especially in summer?

I'm not having a shot at any other States.....;-)

cheers

The worst thing to come out of QLD is XXXX beer, many thanks to sensible southerners for Tooheys & VB beer being on the market in QLD, makes the place that little more livable & keeps the rednecks at bay.
