Are there any
places in Victoria that you can get some training on using the mapping system using Explore Oz GPS Mapping software.
I am afraid it's all a bit much for me to work out not having much to do with map reading I left that to the ships Navigator in the Navy I just sent and received the messages and drank coffee and watched the waves go by. I live in the Frankston area in
Melbourne I joined one of the bigger 4wd clubs (who shall remain nameless but found them a bit clicky, trips seemed to be for those in the know?etc ) they had the training sessions for explore oz but no longer in that club a little gun shy to join another club.
Any private
places you can help me with some explaination of the workings.

Guys,
I understand what your saying bout the club thing. I was a member of a huge club here in
Sydney and found the same thing on outings, so I didnt renew my
membership.
As for the mapping /GPS learning, All i can suggest is trial and error. We also had training through the club, actually had a whole weekend trip based on GPS, it was fantastic, problem was, if you dont keep doing it...U forget how.
So what i do now is, when i have some spare time, I get the laptop out and some maps and the gps and play. Problem there is, just as im really getting into it, I have to become a TAXI for a family member, and thats very annoying. But after a year or so, I got the basics worked out. I just hope i never have to use them in a panic situation out the middle of nowhere. I am sure id fail.
Dont be affraid to ask questions. Worst thing that could happen is they make fun of you, if they do that, then you know they still havent left their childhood behind, cross them off your friends list and move on
Ange.

I asked the same question some time back and suggested a self help group of members/visitors in
Melbourne. Alas nothing came of it.
As chance would have it I am in
Adelaide, on and off for the next three months, but would support you if possible to get some kind of casual meeting of a self help group or even a more formal arrangement.
I enjoy using Ozi and would love to fast track my learning and skills.
Good luck Sunchasers and keep persisting if you have the time to initiate something.

Noel & Pam,
Just for the record the software you are reffering to is OziExplorer and is created by D&L Software in QLD. ExplorOz is the web business that you are now using and a member of, they are not the same thing. ExplorOz is a reseller for and user of OziExplorer. It is a bit confusing but we are two different businesses.
I am sure there are some members in Vic that would be able to help you. Maybe someone will reply to you in this thread as there are heaps of ExplorOz - Oziexplorer users in
Melbourne.
I would gladly show you however located in
Perth it makes it a little difficult. If I can help you over the phone please just give us a call - I have done this with several other members from all over the country.

Noel and Pam, Keep your eyes peeled for a Vic or
Melbourne Exploroz day out, come along, bring your Oziexplorer stuff with you and someone will onyl be too happy to help you thru it. I am in Melb once a week and often drop by fellow Exploroz peoples homes for a free feed, no thats not really the reason, some of them are nice people too hahahaha and anyways how did I get sidetracked, Member Lucy is just starting to learn Oziexplorer on his flash new PDA.
If I am about I awould be happy to pass on what II know.

Yep, that is a good idea. There is a bbq/picnic on 28 Aug 2005 in
Melbourne where I am sure someone can give some assistance. I am far from an expert in Ozi however I always manage to get it to do what I want. Happy to show you some stuff on 28/8 if you can make it.
Just on the club clique thing - have found this also to be true of many clubs. Join up on some EO trips - no clique crap there.

There is an OziExplorer discussion group in Yahoo groups. Lots of helpful people, and I know contacts have been made there for self help. I will willingly help with any questions you can email me at bagreeningatbtinternet.com (replace at with @). Unfortunatly I live in London so it is a bit far away to visit
