With much posted about cheaper alternatives to Nissan parts, has anyone replaced their bonnet gas lifters? Ours went suddenly and as quote seemed obscene, i didn't get them and have forgotten just how much it was. Apparently we can get reconditioned ones a bit cheaper.

I don't know where you live but a freind has just bought 2 gas struts from a shop in Hervey Bay QLD. Cost was $66 each for ones big enough for a camper trailer. This shop also reconditions struts. I don't know the name of the shop but i could find out if you want.

Thanks MartyB - we're far away in SW WA, but we have bought gas lifts for different things, so may need to take some measurements and try again. Thanks.

From the information that I've been able to source, reconditioning merely means placing them into a sealed vessel under pressure and forcing air back under the seals and into the strut. Should your struts have failed because of damaged seals then in no time at all your back to square one. I hope someone out there ca contradict me and point both of us to a reliable supplier.

I just bought two struts to lift the bed in the camper for $34 (for both) from UES in Melbourne on 03 9763 4400.

Speak to Paul, he will give the exact compression and stroke you need.

Dealer parts are, and have always been, a rip.

Cheers,

Jim.
