A couple of quick questions.

1. any one in the Newcastle area with one that would not mind me swinging by to take a look?

2. anyone taken one through the top end yet?

Thanks.

Hi Brick

we're just back from our gulf trip...we took our TrakShak, but Glenn took his Tambo, I'm sure if he sees this he'll respond, it handled the terrain really well, they're a great unit.

cheers

Hi Lyn,

Was wondering if you could let me know what if anything you would do to your Trak Shak that didnt come standard. We bought one earlier this year and have only used it a few times so far, but are goign away for a week in late October.

We have fridges with it and the rest of it is pretty much as it came.

Any info appreciated.

Hi Mark

Our TrakShak is about 10 years old, we bought it secondhand...so far Al has installed two watertanks underneath - plastic type with metal shrouds, and at the moment I use a handpump which can either be inside or outside the camper but will eventually have sureflow pump, he has also installed drawers into the camper - one used for food and other stuff the other has a 70lt fridge and the space behind holds the portapotti and coleman hotwater service.

The front has a huge storage box that Al installed that houses, chairs, solar panels, table and anything else we can think of, also the inverter thing and solar panel gauges are also installed there, and al is thinking of building a rack for firewood, the drawbar has been extended to house the box, one of the side sections where the gerries would be has been modified to house2 x100amp batteries, and is fully enclosed within a lockable cupboard. I can send you some snaps if you like about what he's done so far, I"m sure there'll probably be further modifications.

Our TrakShak was wonderful the whole trip, no issues and only a little bit of dust within the trailer section itself, but nothing major, it's a great unit and suits us really well, easy to set up and pack away.

hope this helps, if you want some snaps, email me, addy under the rig pic and I'll send some off to you

cheers

Lyn

Only real problem for the Tambo CT's is the waiting time.

Hi Brick,

As Lyn has stated, my Tambo performed superbly on a recent 4 week outback trip. We covered 7500kms, with at least 4000km on dirt. The Tambo towed beautifully behind my 80 Series, and the fuel economy was not affected at all by it. The Tambo is easy to set up and dismantle, and we had numerous one night stops where set up would take 15 minutes, and dismantling about 25 minutes. Grierson Engineering installed a 90 litre water tank that has a hand pump on the tail gate (internal) and a 12V pump on the side (external).

The Tambo handled all conditions well, including the corrugations, rocks, stones, mud, bull dust and of course bitumen. It didn't bounce around too much and I am happy with the rebound type leaf suspension. It also has electric brakes that worked well when needing to avoid hitting roos, cows, horses and especially sheep. I have the the annex that I keep attached, only removing it at Tibooburra as it was very windy and we were only stopping for one night. The only other issue was with dust, but I returned the camper to Tambo on Tuesday and picked it up on Wednesday with Keith fixing all my issues straight away. The only other thing that I would look at, is getting a steel plate welded onto the drivers side of the camper, to prevent stones/rocks from hitting the insert for the step. This did happen once, and luckily I could bend it back with a screw driver.

The front of the camper did cop a bashing from all the stones, but the only things that were destroyed were the white reflectors, the lights were not touched. I have the stone guard that connects to the sides of the camper, and it did a great job, just carry heaps of cable ties, as they get destroyed very easily by flying stones.

I cannot praise Amanda and Keith enough for their wonderful product, and their after sales service is second to none. You may have to wait a few months to get one, but it is well worth that wait. I hope this answers your questions.

Cheers

Glenn

Thanks for the information Glenn. We have a Tambo Cooper on order and are looking forward to getting it in October. The extra stone guards up the side sound like a good idea, will have to add them to the trailer order!

Can you explain what the dust problem was? I assume you were getting some entering around the seals? Any other issues you needed addressing.

I agree, Keith and Amanda are a pleasure to deal with.

Cheers
Brick.

Hi Brick,

The tool box was superb, no dust ingress at all. The two problems I had were where two edges of the canvas slipped out of the channel it sits in and so some dust got into the test area near the bed. This issue has been rectified in later versions as Tambo now insert screws to prevent this from occurring. They have now added the screws to mine. The other problem was caused by me locking the top down too tight and so I flattened the seal tape, thus making it useless. Keith has given me a newer, more expensive type of tape to test, and I think it will do the job better. I also have to learn to lock the top down looser next time. Both Keith and Amanda stated they had never seen so much dust ingress into the trailer base before, but after Keith showed me the cause, I knew it was my fault.

Cheers
