G'Day all,
I was using my compressor the other day to pump up a trailer tyre and noticed that the hose fitting ( to connect to the tyre valve ) was leaking air. I had'nt noticed this before, although I may have been doing this for a while, as I hav'nt had the need to use the compressor for some time. I ashume that it should'nt leak, as the air tank on the compressor would never fill or reach "shut off" presure. Am I correct? If so, does any know where I could pick up a new small fitting that would have a presure guage attached. It would need to be smaller that a service station type as it needs to fit in the carrying box along with the compressor.
Any ideas.
Regards,
Bazza.

First thing I do with my compressors is immediately replace all of the silly clamps they use with some proper stainless steel screw-on hose clamps. If you bought the compressor new, then you probably would have had the decent VDO gauge that came with it..... a much better option in my book than one attached to the compressor. Reason is that when airing down at the beginning of a day out, you don't have to drag the entire compressor box out just to know that you're down to your desired pressure.

Capt.

My understanding of the ARB Compressors is that unless it has been installed for use with air lockers they don't come with pressure cut off switches. I had to buy one in the case when my air locker unit failed and it definately did not have a cut off switch.

For this reason the tyre valve fitting does not shut the air off when you remove it from the tyre and I wouldn't fit one that does unless you get a cut off switch. ARB have the switches. As for the tyre inflator and gauge I got mine from the ARB dealer who installed all my gear.

My original compressor was insalled by ARB under my driver's seat as a compressor-only. It was not installed to drive lockers. The pressure switch came with it as part of the loom...... not as an extra.

Fair enough - Still think Capt. should check otherwise something will go bang if you put a gauge/inflator on. G

You can get the ARB compressor in 2 models in the carry case - 1 with the pressure cut out switch and 1 without.

I would suggest that if yours is leaking from the tyre valve connection then you have the model without the pressure switch.

I have an ARB compressor without the pressure switch and it does leak as described above. Also, have not changed any clamps and all are still good.

Thanks Guys,
Good point Gary. I checked and my unit ( RDCP ) does come with a presure switch and portable VDO guage. I think I'll take Chrispy's advice and replace the fitting and clamps with some thing better. I also take Chrispy's point on having a portable gauge. Good thinking.
Thanks all.

Capt.

capt. wrongway
Just check that the end isn't loose.
I think mine is just a screw on fitting but I could be wrong.
Worth a try.
I used mine on Sunday at Stockton but I didn't take any notice.
Cheers

Yes thats the stockton beach I am talking about.
Not local, Sydney boy but my parents live on the central coast so I am up there a fair bit.
I will probably not be going up there for awhile as I only wanted to take the new car for a run on the sand before I go on my desert trip in three weeks. I had to make sure it went into low range ok.
You can email me at lonards at bigpond dot net dot au as we do get around a fair bit up at the watagans and blue mountains.
Would love to meet up.
Catch ya
