Looking at refuelling at Punmu on our desert trek next year (if we can still afford to drive somewhere).
Has anyone stopped there for diesel recently?

Only 190K to
Well 33. You must be coming in from the west, or planning to do some wandering around ?

Yes, will be coming in from west via
Nullagine and
Carawine Gorge and
places inbetween. From Punmu I want to go left along Wapet Road and also do a detour to Gwenneth Lakes before returning to the Wapet Road and heading for 80 Mile Beach.
I am busy printing maps out at the moment. Would like to go NOW but have to wait until mid June before setting off on another 3 month trek

Willem, I do wish you wouldn't mention such exotic spots. Took me 5 mts looking at the map to find out where Gwenneth Lakes are :) I take it there's something there that shall remain unmentioned ?
I did hear that the Wapet track had suffered some damage this year also. Just what or how extensive I don't know. Perhaps someone could throw some light on this.

I was surprised to find it on a resources in Wa document. It seems that there's something in that area but don't expect to pick any up off the ground. No doubt there will be signs of aboriginal habitation somewhere around. On the other hand it may
well be just an overgrown shot line that ends up disappearing over the horizon.
Look on the
bright side. If you get stuck at least one outside person knows where you were heading :))

Hi Willem,
Just spoke to a friend who went thru there last month.
they said Punmu has diesel, a store that opens fixed hours, and the Administrator who can be contacted via Richards phone number above. They said the administrator is a very helpful guy who lives just outside the community and they recommend the place.
Cheers
phil

Thanks Phil. Hopefully we will still be able to get there next year. If fuel is $2 a litre locally it should be $3 a litre there lol

never heard of anyone having trouble there Willem with a few friends calling in.
There's a
shop number (I may have it somewhere) that would pay to keep with you and don't count on weekends perhaps.

Ahhh - nightshift - it's kind of perverse that one looks forward to working nightshift just to get some sleep.
